Assisted living communities provide healthcare, supervision, and social interaction to persons who are on average 65 years old. Assisted living communities usually provide support with daily activities, help with transportation and appointments, and care supervision. In certain instances, communities may provide hospice, continuing care, or skilled nursing. In Arkansas, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $38,100 . The minimum number of residents for this community type is 4. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include three balanced meals, snacks, and fluids are required. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as what the community will and will not do to meet the resident’s needs, resident’s preference to the identified course of action, compliance agreements, and An initial needs assessment. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include supervision by awake staff, assistance with recreational activities , assistance in obtaining emergency care , and linen service. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include if the resident is physically impaired but cognitively able, staff may assist the resident in removing oral medication from the container and in taking the medication, remove the container cap or loosen the packaging, and assistance with self- administration of medication.
