An assisted living community is a residential living community which administers support, supervision, and assistance to medically stable seniors who do not require skilled nursing support. The services offered often include help with ADLs. Occupants may be kept under monitoring and assessment. In some instances, communities may provide hospice, continuing care, or respite. In Arizona, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $45,000 . The state of Arizona has specific rules related to this type of community. The Division of Public Health Licensing Services, Bureau of Residential communities Licensing governs this community type. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include assistance with self administration, medication procurement, and monitoring of self-administration. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include cognitive stimulation activities, ancillary services, personal care services, and activities to maximize functioning. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include meals must comply with therapeutic diets specified in their service plan, communities must provide meals and snacks in accordance with federal dietary guidelines, and meals must meets the nutritional needs of residents. Public assistance is available through Arizona Long-Term Care System (ALTCS). Staff members receive education in a number of fields. These include: in-service education, cardiopulmonary resuscitation for adults, first-aid, and orientation that is specific to duties. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as initial comprehensive mental and physical assessment, the amount, type, and frequency of services that will be provided to the resident, and The level of service the resident is expected to receive.
