The southernmost state in New England, Connecticut is a popular destination for residents of the New York metropolitan area looking for a scenic getaway — particularly during October, when fall colors are most vibrant. Known as the “Constitution State” for its nation-building contributions following the Revolutionary War, Connecticut is rich with historic Colonial landmarks in cities like Hartford and New London. The southern coastline along the Long Island Sound includes Hammonasset Beach State Park, as well as New Haven, the state’s second-largest city. Here you’ll find Yale University, the antique carousel at Lighthouse Point Park, and the famous New Haven-style thin crust pizza. Although Connecticut can be a bit more expensive than other states, you’ll find it to be a serene, picturesque escape from the big city and an excellent retirement destination.
The median monthly cost of a senior apartment in Connecticut is about $1,400.

We chose Landing of Poughkeepsie because out of the ones we looked at, it was cleaner, they were more professional, and staff seemed better trained. The room sizes are great, she has a 1 bedroom and it is very comfortable. I would definitely recommend them, they have been very communicative about everything and it is all around just a great facility.
Read moreWe chose Sunrise of Holbrook because it was highly recommended to us, they had the license for the level of care that she needed, and also at the time when most of the assisted livings were not allowing visitation, they had permission to allow family visitation. They also had the option for hospice care and palliative care so they just had all criteria we were looking for. When we met with the staff members here we felt that they were all very warm, concerned, and accommodating. I would absolutely recommend to others who are looking.
Read moreThe staff at Brookdale Wayne were very welcoming when we were visited and they were very friendly. They are very willing to listen to us when we need something, however the night staff is lacking a little compassion. The rooms at this community are pretty spacious and very nice. The food is about average, we would give it a three out of five. We would recommend this community to a family or friend
