Residents alert and awake

We chose Genesis Manor VI for my mom because we really liked the community and appearance. The residents are more alert and awake then at other communities. My mother was in a different community and the residents there just seemed like zombies, I was there 5 or 6 times to visit and no residents said anything they would just sit in front of the TV and stare. Ever since moving my mother here that dope stage is going away and she is more awake and alert. The residents here say hi and are actually talking. The food here is wonderful. We are very happy with Genesis and would recommend it to anyone.

Total Care

My Mom is in the Rancho Cucamonga house. I had my first visit there last week. They seem to be taking very good care of her. There were no odd odors in the house, it was clean and everything was picked up. Our visit was unannounced. I rated activities low because the people staying there can't do much. This category should really be Not Applicable. They had a TV and comfortable lounge chairs and a lift to get them out of bed safely. From what I could see I mom was in good hands. She can't really articulate her thoughts but she looks better than she did in the transition/rehab facility she was in before.

Highly Rated

The overall experience with the Genesis manor, I find it very worthy of the value for care services received. I would rate everything very highly. The only issue that we have had so far is with the activities.

Knowledge is power...

The staff at the Genesis Manor V always has my mom bathed with clean clothes and her hair brushed when I visit. I visit her several times a week and take her out for meals, they feed her and treat her well. If she requests a cookie they give her a cookie, though she always seems to be hungry when I pick her up? She has not had any food complaints. The staff is teaching her things like how to set a table and working with her. They change her bedding everyday. The value is the only thing I had marked lower, I feel like the cost is a little high, not where I'd like it to be, but I am happy with the care they provide. There was just one incident with one staff member handling of a comment my mom made that caused slight concern, but after talking with the staff member there hasn't been any issue. My mom has good people to interact with at Genesis. My dad is at Heritage Park, which when I asked him to rate the Heritage Park on a scale of 1 to 5 he gave them a 3. He has more care needs then my mom, but she seems happier with Genesis Manor than he is with Heritage Park. In the Health Care industry I have had to teach myself how to be an advocate for my parents. It has been a learning experience and there is a lot I am still learning. I keep a log of my parents daily activities and medications and pain or symptons so I have information when it comes to making medical decisions for them. This has helped in so many regards, especially when getting them tested for something they have already been treated for. I have been able to assist the doctors in diagnoses for them because of my log.

First, my mom was over 100 years old, when we moved her there. She was well past being able to participate in any of the activities she had once enjoyed in her former facility. I visited her at the Genesis Manor IV only a couple of times, as we live out of state. Genesis Manor homes are neighborhood homes, with live-in, 24-hour caregivers. [name removed] and [name removed] were the caregivers in GM IV, and we came to appreciate their care of Mom so much. The home was nothing like the independent-living facility where Mom had lived for close to 20 years. That facility had a much finer appearance--and charged much more. It had a potential occupancy of about 115 residents. Contracted caregivers were available at prices set by the lead caregivers, adding to the overall cost. And unless family members were very involved and frequently present, it was difficult to know how Mom was truly faring. We finally learned that the repeated assurance that Mom was "fine" had become a lie, so we looked for a new home for her. Enter A Place for Mom, through whom I found Genesis Manor homes. Unfortunately, nearly two years have passed since Mom died, and I no longer have those contacts, nor do I remember, for sure. The owner was, I think, [name removed] (?), but the person with whom I had the most contact was her daughter [name removed] (spelling is correct), who oversaw the particular home where Mom ended up. Anyway, my answers to further questions are very limited, because of the passage of time and my physical distance. Because occupancy is limited to two caregivers and six residents, my impression is that the homes best serve residents like my mom: limited in physical abilities due to age or disease. Care is very personal, fitted to the needs of the individual resident. Rooms are small, some private, others two-bed. Anyone looking for luxury, activities, and many of the amenities in larger facilities should look elsewhere. Anyone looking for more attentive care may find a fit for Mom in one of the Genesis Manor homes. Each of the homes was overseen by one of the owner's adult and professional daughters or her son. Each of them is an experienced RN, having hospital and hospice experience. The homes are not licensed as medical facilities, so the overseers do not do the nursing. But they know when medical care is needed, outside of the weekly visits by an M.D. or Registered Nurse Practitioner. My contacts with [name removed] were always pleasant and helpful. My last couple of visits to see Mom (preempted for a time, due to COVID-19 restrictions) convinced me that [name removed] and [name removed] gave the residents the individual attention each might need; they were receptive to reasonable visits, as long as visitors understood that the caregivers might be busy with meals or other residents. However, in our last visit, when Mom needed her oxygen set up, [name removed] came quickly and knew exactly what he was doing. This personal attention is invaluable; the medical knowledge of the owner, as well as [name removed] , [name removed], and their sisters, is priceless. And we went from paying over $[removed]/year for Mom's rent and "care" to less than $[removed]. I was not there to see six residents seated around the table. Mom needed someone to feed her (besides her age, her right rotator cuff had been injured in a fall in her previous location, where inquiries about her limited use of her arm were met with "Oh, it just hasn't fully healed from her last fall. But she's fine." She wasn't.). How many residents might have eaten at the same time probably depended on their individual needs and abilities. I can only guess that not many choices were given (e.g., "Would you like the pancakes or the oatmeal?"), due to the nature of the facility. If Mom wasn't hungry, she wasn't forced to eat. This is good care, too.

A great place for loved ones

The family of healthcare workers who own it are very helpful and involved and they try hard to accommodate your needs/ requests. My mother lived at the Bethany Circle Genesis House for 9 years. We found it to be a good place for her as she was well cared for and safe. She was a quiet lady so the low key atmosphere suited her. The house is nicely decorated and always tidy. My mother first shared a room and then eventually took over the two person room herself. Later she moved to a small bedroom which was cozy and comfortable. The staff is loving and kind. The [name removed] family is respectful and helpful. They know what is going on and make changes as requested or needed. Having the doctor and his staff come once a month was a big benefit. The staff is very careful with medication. They keep it safely locked up, administer it properly, and notify the pharmacy for re-fills. We are grateful for the care that my mother received. It was very reasonable cost-wise and we would definitely recommend it.

Nice Choice

My Mother has been a resident at Genesis Manor V for approximately six months. Upon my first visit there I was really impressed with the owners (all of whom are Registered Nurses) and care givers. They were very friendly and seem to have a genuine concern for the health and well being of all the residents there. My Mother really likes the staff and clean environment. I would recommend Genesis Manor V to anyone looking for a nice, clean, and friendly environment for their love one.

I was not happy with a few things

Inside it was very good but outside, I thought it needed a little care. They're very friendly but my mother is no longer there. I had stressed to them the importance that they watch her at night, getting out of bed or anything. I gave them baby monitors so they would be able to hear her and I saw the baby monitor in her room so I assumed it was hooked up. At the end of the first month that she was there she tried to get up in the middle of the night she fell and severly broke her leg. She had a compound fracture. Later I found that the baby monitor on the other end was not hooked up. It was in a drawer. 911 should have been called. I was very unhappy about that. The staff was wonderful. I have no problems with them. Accidents happen and I think they've learned a lesson. It was a mad mistake.

Impressed with her medical background and the caregiver personal attention to each resident. House does not have newer furnishings but was clean and well kept. There is only one caregiver, however the owners go over every day and they own another home a couple blocks away, so if the caregiver needed help there are people close by.

Our experience with Genesis Manor

We chose Genesis Manor because they had availability at the time we needed it, my mother in law wanted him close to her, so location played a key factor as well. The staff was very friendly here but there was a language barrier and effective communication was really important to us. I do think that this facility could have benefited more from having an outside area for the residents to get sunshine and fresh air.

Review of Genesis Manor Iv-La Verne, Ca

I met with David [removed]. He was very willing to speak with me and gave me a lot of information. I did get a little more of a “sale-pitch” vibe from him as he took many opportunities to talk up the place. He and his family own several homes. He had rooms available in two of them and he showed both to me. Positives: David, his mother, and some of the staff are nurses and not just licensed care-givers. Rooms available were private and at a fairly reasonable cost. Negatives: A little far away from me in Alta Loma. Both houses were somewhat dimly lit. Not overly so but they didn’t have the brighter, cheerier atmosphere that other places had. Two of the rooms, although private, were really small. Small community bathrooms. They use baby-monitors to be able to see and hear residents in their bedrooms.

I toured this community

I toured this community I was not impressed. They answered all of my questions. It smelled really bad in there. It looked rundown and needs to be refreshed. I saw someone carrying in microwavable meals for the residents, maybe it was a special request from one of them. The back porch looked hazardous.
