A nursing home is a community that houses two or more seniors who have no family relation to the administrator. A nursing home community offers its inhabitants 24-hour care by on-site nurses. These nurses offer specialized care for those who are unable to take care of their needs because of mental or physical conditions.

Nursing homes are a helpful and comfy care alternative for persons 65 years or older, however nursing homes will often persons 55 and older which is unusual for other senior care types. The most common mental disease experienced by residents of nursing homes is dementia, which can hinder their decision making abilities, memory recall, and and their sense of familiarity. A large number of residents tend to be single women with circles of support, and almost half of nursing home residents are over 85 years old. Often times persons may choose to live in a nursing home due to a mental or physical disability that makes it difficult for them to accomplish the activities of daily living. As a resident of a nursing home, you can expect the right to spend time with visitors, be treated with respect, be free from abuse and neglect, and to manage your money.
