The staff is very accommodating, very nice and friendly. The staff ratio to residents is great. Low staff turnover. They have dedicated staff for each wing (four wings) overall in the facility. The courtyard allows them to freely roam around, get fresh air, enjoy the outside. It is nicely landscaped, very safe, walkways and patios with tables and chairs. Bird feeders, bird baths, just a little cozy hamlet. Everything is on one level, so no worries with elevators, stairs etc. The outside is securely fenced keeping them safe. The efforts involved to keep up with everyone's dietary needs can be a challenge, but they certainly try their best to keep up with these requests for the residents. They have a great activities program, the activities director has a great program. Anyone whom has their loved one in a facility, cannot walk away. Need to stay in touch with your loved one's and communication with the staffing is absolutely key. Everyone in staff has their role and it is very important and The Reserve at Royal Oaks has figured this out perfectly. The value for the money of service is very important and the value at the Reserve is top notch.... Read more

We toured with The Reserve at Royal Oaks and the facility was too large and felt more like a hospital. WE were looking for something more homey and easy to navigate.

Response from The Reserve at Royal Oaks
August 5, 2022We are so happy to see this review for how accommodating our staff has been! Thank you so much for taking the time to acknowledge the service you have received, and we look forward to serving you for many more years. Thanks Jeannette.
My dad was very unhappy at his previous community so we moved him to Colonial Oaks as we heard great things. Just after a couple of days after moving you could see a difference in dad. He is always smiling now, cared for, and the staff are so pleasant to interact with. We are so blessed to have found Colonial Oaks.
I am delighted that my husband is at Colonial Oaks- the staff is wonderful, compassionate, and really great with both visitors and clients. They take the surprising happenings of daily life of Memory care people in their stride. Each one seems to go out of their way to reach out to all in need! The layout of the gands are lovely and the layout seems so efficient and cheerful. Carefully planned to meet the needs of clients.
The director has been great and the community is pretty good at communication. The staff is very caring. I would definitely recommend this community to others.

I was very blessed to find this community for my mother. From her first day in her new place the staff has treated her with compassion and kindness. The community is clean and the staff is very diligent about adhering to the COIVD-19 rules and guidelines. Mom is comfortable and happy and has nothing but good things to say about the staff. The entire staff has been helpful and kind and I want to thank each and every one of them that has been compassionate not only with my mother but with me as well.

When the Covid Shutdown happened it became clear the my Mother need more care than was available where she was. I knew she needed Memory Care but was so nervous about moving her during this time. Everyone at Colonial Oaks was not only helpful but patient as I made the decision to move Mom. The staff were very helpful in making the necessary arrangement for Mom to move in - extra care being taken with time to have all her things sanitized and waiting for her on day one. [Name removed] and [name removed] arranged the needed testing and came to Mom so she did not get confused or upset. It was difficult "dropping" Mom off knowing I would not be able to visit until Covid is under control. But everyone has been wonderful about keeping me up to date on how she is doing and understanding about my anxiety. The staff, [name removed], is kind and arranges Facetime, sends me pictures of Mom doing activities, and keep me informed about her. Mom is actually doing much better than before she moved to Colonial Oaks, structure and activities has helped her anxiety and she is happier than I have seen her in ages! I want to thank everyone for being to kind and understanding, especially during this difficult time.

I really appreciate the care that Colonial Oaks at Westchase gives the residents, especially now during the Coronavirus pandemic. It's such a relief that they are protecting the residents by restricting all non-essential visitors, while allowing us to stay connected with our loved ones (in my case, my mom) through FaceTime. Miss [name removed] has been an angel to always let us talk and see my mom as often as we want! Also Miss [name removed] is so kind and wonderful with my mom that I know that she is not just safe, but loved!

This was a first time ever decision to make for my mother. I'm extremely pleased with the results. The caregivers are incredible. They give 100%+ to all of the residents & make us loved ones feel part of their day. They're caring & attentive to all the residents needs. The facility is very clean & well maintained. The office staff are all great! They take the time to listen to you, your concerns & provide answers you can understand. Even the cleaning/cook/laundry staff always have a big smile for you. It has turned into truly a home away from home for my mother. 5 stars to the staff & 5 forks to the chefs!

The kindness and caring for Memory Care is the best. Watching for signs of serious physical health problems are terribly lacking. Myhusband was at colonial Oaks West chase five weeks. Died and had lost 30 pounds.

Our mother suffers from dementia and has been at Colonial Oaks Westchase for over a year. This was a difficult decision for us, but the staff at Colonial Oaks have been wonderful, easy to communicate with and guided us along the way. They are always having activities and parties that involve the patients. Because the facilities is smaller than most, the staff really gets to know the patient on a much more personal level and take special time with each person. Colonial Oaks has parties throughout the year which allow the families to attend. While we have not eaten the food on a daily basis, the food at the parties and events is always very good. Our mother is happy and we find great comfort in knowing that the staff takes good care and advises us immediately when there is a problem.

We moved my mother here after she had lived in another memory care facility for several years. The rent at the previous place had gone up over the years and it finally became prohibitive. My efforts to try and negotiate with them were largely unsuccessful, they offered only a tiny reduction in the rate. So I got in touch with APFM and they arranged tours of several nearby facilities, all of which were very nice and priced significantly lower than we had been paying. We decided on Colonial Oaks because it seemed a good fit because of location, level of care and services and value for the cost. We did have a bit of a learning curve with medication orders, etc., when she first moved but that all worked out.

This is a nice community for care. We like knowing that she is active in this community. The staff is caring and the environment and the cleanliness are very nice. We like the menu, but it does need some small improvements in the dinner menu. We would recommend this community for the care for a loved one.

So far so good at Coloinal Oaks Westchase. The value is really good here. They have good activities. The food is good. It is well balanced. They have activities in the morning and afternoon and then they have a snack for the residents. All of the staff from the director on down is real friendly. I am very pleased with this facility so far.

My dad had advanced Alzheimer's. Sorry to say Colonial Oaks Westchase was the worst care I have ever seen! I visited my dad nearly every day and we also had a private duty care giver with him 8 hours so that he had care during the day, as Colonial Oaks could not give him the care he needed. As soon as he was alone Colonial Oaks tied him to his wheel chair and "parked" him so that their staff could do other duties. He, along with the other residents were left unattended in the tv room every night so that the staff could have their dinner then clean the kitchen. This [removed] resulted in my father falling over and over again, the wheelchair falling on top of him because he was tied in! We requested that the ties be removed but the requests were ignored. He was sent to the hospital 5 or 6 times with injuries due to the falls. He was made to sleep on the floor (on a "fall matt" not even a mattress)! During this time I was having him evaluated by other Memory Loss Facilities so that he could be moved. He must have fallen again but it was not reported. We noticed 2 days before his scheduled move that he had a pain patch on his back and bruises on his side and arms but none of the staff would explain why, when or how it happened. His first day at the new home we discovered that his hip was broken. This place might be ok if you can take care of yourself but, if your loved one needs assistance of any kind stay away!

They've done a great job at Colonial Oaks so far! They've got a great staff with very caring attitudes, and you can tell that they are really committed to their residents. It's a nice looking, clean facility, and we really like the layout. It is all on one floor, and has 2 different courtyard type areas, so it is easy to navigate and has plenty of space for walks. I'd definitely recommend it to others looking into care options for their loved ones!
