I really like how secure their memory care unit is, but when you're there, you don't feel locked down. It's very open, with lots of sunlight. I like that they have people in different stages of dementia all mixed together, so they don't have anybody isolated out, which I think is good. Since I've been there, there's been a lot of staff turnover. But everyone I've worked with there has been really nice. And they seem to offer plenty of activities.... Read more

Completely disappointing. We selected the Madeline and then there was a change of several folks in leadership. The new folks did not clearly communicate and were unresponsive at times.

Response from The Madeline of Decatur
August 31, 2023Thank you for your feedback. Your comments are a bit perplexing to us, as the Madeline has not had any leadership changes and a tenured, stable team. We’d invite you to contact our Executive Director, Sharon Fuller, at 404-996-1073 to discuss further. We do thank you for being a valued part of the Madeline family.
Our loved ones situation was very unique and became quite temporary because of it but while she was there the community was always very nice and clean
I fell in love with this place. The only issue was a miscommunication with pricing.
Overall I thought The Madeline was great. I liked the people there. The only problem was the residents didn’t have their own shower in their rooms. There was a a communal shower for about 50 residents, male and female combined, which I did not care for.

June 30, 2022Thank you for your feedback about our wonderful community. We do have rooms that have private showers available. We also have spa rooms where we assist residents with bathing in a private, dignified, safe, and spacious setting.
This was a great community and would have worked out well for my loved one it was just out of the price range that we set.
This community was nice but I was not too impressed with it. It just did not give me that feeling that I was looking for.
Our family had an in person tour and we really liked this community, it is closer in location and the place itself was very nice. Everyone was very friendly, and they were willing to work with us regarding our finances, but due to our loved ones health this was not going to be a good fit.
I really liked The Madeline of Decatur a lot. I felt that it was a high quality facility with good care. It was during the height of covid and their visitation hours were by appointment only and I did not like that.
Response from The Madeline of Decatur
October 21, 2021Thank you for your review, we are pleased to hear about your positive experience. We understand the challenges of visitation by appointment that were required previously, but it ensured we could monitor social distancing and sanitize visitation spaces after each visit in effort to best protect our residents and team members.

I would want people to know if your loved one has any mobility issues, this is not the place for them. It is for able bodied people with memory issues and nothing else. The facility is beautiful and all of the people are so nice, but during check in they forget to tell us major key details, it was chaos. I had sat there and gone over a care plan with them the Friday before for an hour and then on check in day they pulled me back in and started the whole care plan again, so they must have lost everything we went over. The whole thing was problematic. I had told them that she was a big fall risk and that someone needed to be watching her very closely. The toilet in her room did not have railings or anything like that. She ended up falling right away (3 times actually) and the last time she hit her head and went into the hospital. After she got back, we ended up taking her out right away. She had a massive bruise on her forehead and they tried to cover it up. It was a terrible experience. We got a refund.

We are very pleased with The Madeline of Decatur. She seems to have adjusted here very well. You do still have to set up appointments to go visit, my brother goes by every day and he has been very happy with them as well. It is hard since we are not able to see them interacting and doing activities but they said she is doing well, they offer a lot of activities. Overall I would recommend to others who are looking.

I would not recommend for anybody who does not have severe dementia. Our loved one is at the beginning stages and they are totally ignoring our loved one. They are more focused on severe residents, so our loved one is not being looked out after. They are short staffed and it is just not worth the money it is very expensive.

The Madeline has done a great job especially during the pandemic. We really liked how its a smaller community, which we thought it would be good for our loved one. We also liked how it had hand rails all over the place for the residents to easily get around. The rooms are on the smaller side, but for our loved ones needs the rooms were perfect. We haven't eaten there ourselves, but the food they have provided for the residents seemed fine. At the family functions they provide, the food was delicious.

We felt like we got a good value compared to other communities we looked at. Our loved one really needed to be in a skilled nursing facility and unfortunately at time they were not, she was there for weeks and fell a couple of times. They were understaffed, but they did the absolute best they could. The manager there is awesome we really like her. She is very loving and good caring person. The activities were great, they had an English tea for all the women there, they would dress up with hats and decorate the place for them to have tea. The did have outings, church services and games. The activities director was wonderful. It is an older building but it was recently renovated, and they really did a good job turning it around. Its very clean, and the food is fabulous. Its not institutional everything looks fresh. It has wings that go off to a central area. The rooms have a half bath, and you can decorate it any way you want to. They are very flexible, the staff wants you to feel right at home. They have a cute outside area that you can garden in. We would recommend this community to anyone.

The Madeline had memory games for the residents, as well as outdoor activities and agility exercises. They would throw holiday themed dinners as well. The staff is very engaging and receptive to the residents. My father loves the food, they have a lot of varieties to chose from. The community layout is nice, its set up in a neighborhood type scenery. Each room has there own bathroom. They room sizes are quite nice,

May 11, 2020Thank you for your review Brenda, we love our community members and staff so much!
Nice facility-all on one floor. Staff was extremely friendly and attentive. There are some extreme memory-challenged patients there that may turn her off. Like that they specialize only in memory care. Director was very friendly and asked a lot of good questions.
