The best assisted living on the coast for the cost

I would definitely recommend this community. It is clean and they are attentive. They are very positive, sunny bright and happy. Everyone's moods and attitudes also reflect this happiness. The food and dining is also excellent. The cost compared to other places locally is also affordable and better.

A great place, but they just don't have much to entertain the residents.

I feel like it's too enclosed. There's a not a lot to do. They have a little living room area and an outside courtyard. But I don't ever see anything goin on in the courtyard or anybody using it. One time, months ago, they had a singer come in and sing Sinatra songs, but I haven't seen anything like that since then. Sometimes a staff member will play games with them or do trivia questions. They don't take them anywhere. So I guess my biggest complaint is with Covid, there's not a lot going on. The residents don't seem to be very happy. But I feel that the staff are very attentive. They keep things very clean. My loved one doesn't have to wait when she has a need. They give them their meds on time and take them to meals on time. She hasn't had any complaints about the food. She likes the staff. I just wish there was more to do. Also, mobility is an issue. Because the facility is so small, there's no place for her to park her scooter. And because of that, she feels like they discourage her using her scooter. When I've talked to them, they say they're concerned that she can't control it.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I am the Executive Director and want to thank you for your kind works about our team. We appreciate your compliments on the cleanliness of the community and how attentive the team is to your loved one -- and love knowing she enjoys the food. As restrictions have eased we have a full line up of activities that happen daily, and are again bringing in outside entertainment at least 3 times a week. I would like to point out that we continuously assess each resident's needs, and when those needs change we will make recommendations to families on new accommodations to make. I would certainly welcome the opportunity to discuss this as it relates more specifically to your loved one. Please feel free to give me a call or stop by my office if you would like to talk.

Our tour experience

Our family had a tour experience and the sales person was extremely good, they were offering up all the deals to get us to move our loved one in. However it is an older facility, which made it just feel old. We did not like right when you walked in, people were crowding around it felt congested. Also they AC was attached to the windows in the apartments which were small, we know our loved one would of not been able to work that AC unit and we would of preferred to have central air.

Thank you for visiting with us and sharing your impressions. While our community may be a bit more established, we do have beautifully appointed courtyards, a lovely dining room serving restaurant-style meals, a library with a pool table, exercise rooms, and much more! More importantly we have vibrant, young-at-heart residents and dynamic team members. Note also that our air conditioner are highly efficient PTAC units much like those found at hotels, and our team is always available to help residents adjust the temperature in their apartments to their liking. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance as you explore senior living options.

Close This Place Down

The residents get very poor care. They are often ignored. The managers talk a good game but don't deliver anything. I tried to address these issues with them. The overall director of the facility I think put forth some effort. The biggest problem is the Director of Resident Services. He, in my opinion, is worthless. I've left emails, voice messages, and he never returned a single one. In my opinion, that place will not improve until they replace him as Director of Resident Services. I would not recommend The Gardens of Port St. Lucie to anyone.

No communication from facility to family members

First off let me say I actually do like the Gardens; the COVID has not helped. My mom has dementia and has been staying on the ALF side. At the end of April she had a stroke, she returned but to the SNF side for some rehab. She wants to go back to the ALF side; she keeps trying to 'escape' because she wants her ALF room back. Every time I talk to someone (when I can get them to return my call haha) tells me something different. There is NO communication with the family. I finally find out at the end of her 100% covered SNF days that I could have refused and had her back on the ALF already. My mom can walk by herself, feed herself, dress herself, bathe herself; her dementia memory has always been there and I will admit has exacerbated, but it would not be as bad if she were not on the skilled nursing side as she is bored and COVID isolating her family has not helped the situation! She wants her room and her recliner. [name removed] is wonderful and about the one that has communicated with me almost immediately. The social worker has tried. The rest of the management I am not impressed with, I will admit I did not need them before so I was not aware. I am just frustrated that when I need to speak with someone I have to ask I cannot reach them in a timely manner and when I do all the necessary information I need is not relayed to me.

Joyce, I am the Executive Director and sorry I was not able to reach you the other day. We know that the COVID-19 restrictions on visitors makes it difficult at times, but we appreciate your patience as we have worked to get your mother stable and back to her assisted living apartment. As you know she moved back a few days ago and is happy to be back in her space. I will try to reach you again later this week, but please reach out to me directly at any time if I can be of any further assistance.

Disappointed

After a month in this facility, my family and I have become very disappointed in the nursing care provided and the administrative staff for not listing and providing information as to decisions they make. Upon admitting him the staff welcomes you with open arms, and assures that this is a great place to be. We our family visit him every day, several times a day. and as weeks passed we noticed the lack of care being offered to him and other senior citizens. Lunch staff complaining about there pay in front of visiting family members. Patients in distress, (respiratory) and waiting 15 minutes up to an hour for nursing staff to respond after the nurse call button was pushed. On many occasions they stop speaking English so you can not under stand them. My father unfortunately can not afford a private room and can not afford to pay for extra amenities. I urge every one to pay close attention to what is going on around your loved one, and I hope the standard of care provided is not based on a monthly check. I have no choice but to look elsewhere for better care. Please note: that there are and have been some caring staff, but unfortunately were not involved with every day nursing care.

Expensive Living!!

I had a tour of this community and our experience was pleasant and I have no complaints. The staff where on time to our appointment and made sure to answer any questions we had for them in detail. The floor plan was open and had a lot of great amenities for all of the residents. It was just not the right price for our budget in the end decision.

Great, caring staff

My mother is a patient in the rehab. She had to go to an appointment and was very uncomfortable and because of her dementia was being very challenging to manage. The staff in general and one in particular went out of their way to distract and calm her. I was so impressed with their professional and calm care. This has not been an easy time for us but the staff here is making a big difference and they should be commended.

Not sure of the truth about this place

My mother just passed away at the gardens. She had been there for several years and I thought she was being well taken care off. I picked up her stuff on Saturday and was shocked to see how filthy her room was. She had some nice furniture and someone left me a note wanting to know if furniture was for sale. Less then 24 hours after she died I had to endure this heartless nonsense. I felt like the ladies who took care of my mother were looking to grab some of her stuff in the room. People kept coming in the room and looked around while I was packing up her stuff. My Mom told me they were stealing her stuff, which was blamed on her dementia, but perhaps they really were trying to steal her stuff. Have no illusions that this is a profit company. It seemed the money was the most important issue with them on every level. I am feeling guilty I left her here because I have no idea how they really treated her. You hear horror stories and I so hope my intuition is wrong. There were some wonderful people that worked there and my gratitude goes out to Pat at the front desk. I have a sick feeling I let me Mom down by subjecting her to this place.

Great Place For Our Mom!

Great place! We moved mom in about a year ago after our dad passed away and it was the best decision we ever made. She's busier than we are now with all the activities and she's really come out of her shell. The food is really good too! We've been very happy.

They could improve on a lot. Going there and talking to them and seeing the property was wonderful. My mom was there for 2 and half days and they totally fell down on the job. My moms caregiver was not wearing her pager and I felt like my mom was being put in harms way. They were very good about coming across and getting us in there, but once she was in there they definitely dropped the ball and I can't imagine putting her in another nursing facility or assisted living because of the care she got there.

Very friendly staff

They're doing a great job here, we're very happy with the service. They really care about and get to know the residents here. I like that when I call the front desk they can tell me, without even needing to look, where my loved one is. The staff know everyone by name, and go out of their way to make the residents feel like family. When my loved one returned from the hospital everyone greeting her warmly and welcomed her home, which really meant a lot to us.

They were fantastic!!

They were fantastic!! We were moving out of state to one of their sister communities, and they were able to do the assessment for us to make sure the move went smoothe. If we had stayed in the area we would have stayed here! we loved it!! They were so friendly and accommodating. Great place.

Small Rooms

We briefly looked at the facility and looked at some of the literature. The units were just smaller than we were interested in, so we didn't pursue it further.
