About the facility The Gardens of Germantown

Seniors with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia can find just the support they need at The Gardens of Germantown. This Vitality Living community focuses exclusively on memory care, with a design suited to the needs of its residents. Secured courtyards feature a wide variety of plants and flowers to encourage wildlife, and peaceful walking paths and raised gardening beds encourage residents to enjoy the outdoors however they wish. Inside, a neighborhood design enables residents to build relationships in a comfortable environment.

Caregivers focus on providing person-centered care for each resident. They get to learn each person’s preferences and life history in order to find activities to cater to their interests. Three neighborhoods allow for residents to bond with neighbors who share a similar cognitive ability. Each neighborhood features comfortable living rooms and dining rooms to promote socialization.

The Gardens of Germantown is ideally located near Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown Hospital and Baptist Memorial Hospital-Collierville for added peace of mind. Residents can enjoy outings to the several nearby shops and restaurants, as well as entertainment at the Germantown Performing Arts Center.

Every person from the "CEO" to custodian left me feeling as if they had my loved one in their good care and keeping. Pros: Friendly and considerate staff (sometimes the Director would drop what she's doing to address a concern, Care plan that addresses the whole resident (mentally, physically, spiritually); Conscientious re cleanliness (soiled linen & clothing washed expediently, seldom mal-odor, quick re spills, etc.), Visitors that provided entertainment, etc.) Cons: More staff per resident ratio (would alleviate subtle hints of frustration, by caregiver, with some residents for their inappropriate and/or challenging behaviors), More attention to building & grounds upkeep (rear of building area looks less maintained plus cobwebs around entry doors)

Lack of Basic Quality of Care

In our experence this memory care residence does not provide the basic quality of care for residence suffering from dementia. Due to the lack of communication, inconsistent staff/not enough staff and limited activities we have been dishearted by the quality of care for our loved one. Are there some good things probably but when there is consisency with unfamilar faces, unclean rooms, no communication or solutions about issues and you witness your loved one declining in a space where you just want basics. While I do not want to belittle but this memory care residence it needs significant attention to the care of it residence. How can a demitia resident feel a level of care when each day, week, month there is a new face. How can they feel care if their room if not cleaned or dirty clothes remain for a duration of time. How can a resident feel a sense of love when majority of the time there is no one attentive when they don't remembering what to do. We have not been satisfied with GOG

Good Experience

The staff have been very good. The food is okay. For a memory care facility the activities is okay. We picked this community because, mainly for the location to family members. My advice to other families is to, make sure that your loved one clearly has memory issues that will never improve. My loved one has improved.

Very good place to be

They had a change in staff and bookkeeping, which was my only concern. Other than that, they communicated well. It was a brand new bulding, which was very clean. Overall, it was very reasonable for the value of the money.

11/10 Would Recommend

there was dust and needle covers under my mom's bed. I mentioned it to the Exec Director who had the head maintenance guy on the case in less than (literally) 30 seconds. Another incident involved not having mom's trash can emptied. The ED came to her room as soon as I mentioned it, figured out the problem and had as solution. Friendliness of staff gets 5++++. No complaints, but another facility (the one my mom got kicked out of) had at least two choices for each meal. And this is *totally* nit-picky, but they occasionally have watermelon snacks, but the watermelon has seeds, which is difficult for dementia sufferers to grapple with. Especially considering the location. I like that the "neighborhoods" are segregated based on cognitive ability. It helps Mom feel less alone, more able to join in with people on her "level". Our brief (unsuccessful) attempt at adult daycare left Mom commenting on how "stupid and boring" the other clients were. She has never said this regarding the other residents in her neighborhood.

Above and beyond staff

The staff go above and beyond, especially the manager. They really helped us with the whole move in experience with anything that we needed. There are two ladies especially that are very special and take great care of our loved one, they even call her mom. I am very happy with the experience with The Gardens of Germantown. I really cannot say enough about the staff, I would give them much higher than a 5 if I could.

Mispresented Care

This was a horrible experience for us. They mispresented themselves. The emergency cords don't work and nobody monitors it according to the staff. This all took place in the first week, and things went downhill for us. The clothes were misplaced and not even done for a few weeks, along with the bed linens. I ended up bringing my loved one home after such a bad experience and went against my expressed requests. There was a woman in the same unit that my loved one was in and this individual would spit in my loved one's face, and the staff would not do anything about it. The staff were supposed to check on my loved one every 15 minutes and that wouldn't happen.

The Gardens of Germantown

The value for cost and the care services were not that good, we were told it would be a certain rate per day but it was more like a certain rate for 24hr. For example, if we moved our loved one in at 11:30PM we would still have to pay the full days rate even though she was not moved in until 11:30PM. Also the living conditions were not appropriate, our loved one did not have a comfortable bed - it was just a spring cot she was sleeping on

Not worth the money

My mom moved in two months ago. A few things have come up when I call I can’t get anyone to answer the phone and they said the phone is broken.and the ac keeps going out on her unit. when We visit the patients are always watching tv instead of activities. They have music performed. She likes that. My wife and I went to meet with the director but he was to busy. He said he would call me back but it’s been three weeks. It takes me and my sister and my brother to help out to pay for her rent.

Tour of The Gardens

They still stay in touch with me from time to time. It looked very nice, they were doing some construction during our tour so not everything was done yet. It was a clean facility. We met a couple of residents and they were very friendly. I do wish I saw more staff during our tour. The pay is al a carte so they have different tiers of care.

So glad that we chose this place.

The residents were all clean, nicely dressed, closely watched, and well cared for. The staff members treated our father and the other residents with compassion, dignity, and respect.
