The best place for mom

I feel as though Sunrise is a place you'd feel good about putting someone you really love in. You will know that they'll be cared for, well fed, and they'll be happy there -and that's really hard when you put someone in a lockdown community. As a whole, they are pretty good at communication. But, for instance, last week they said my mom was acting different so they wanted to run a urine test as she might have had a bladder infection. The day they were supposed to get back to me they never called. I called and never got in touch with someone who knew the results, so I'm assuming it was negative as I'm sure they would have told me if it was not. But, I really didn't like that and I felt that they could've done better. They have a great activities director and some of their activities include a lot of bingo, they'll take them on walks around the building, and there's a secure area in the back of the building for the residents to wander without getting out. They have a machine that plays old tunes and they'll sing along to those, and they do their nails which I think is pretty cool. The person in charge will go around and they'll pick out colors, and I think that's a really nice feature that they do. They also have field trips like Sunday scenic drives, and they've seen a couple movies. They were supposed to go to a Twins game, but I believe it was too hot outside. They were supposed to go fishing that same week as well, but they couldn't because it was still too hot out. Those are some of the fun things they get to do there. I would recommend Sunrise of Golden Valley to others.... Read more

This is the place for Mom.

The staff is very caring. All of the staff that I met were really friendly people. It's clean. And the security on the memory care unit is good. It was nice that I could take our dog in for a visit to see Mom.

Look elsewhere

I would tell others when they are seeking a place, make sure that the employees are trained and know what they are doing. My loved one is not getting good care and when you complain it seems to get worse. I would not recommend to other families who are looking.

Resident care is always a priority at Sunrise of Golden Valley. For nearly 40 years, our Company has had the privilege to take care of thousands of senior residents who have made Sunrise Senior Living their loving and happy home. It’s disappointing whenever we learn that a family member or resident did not enjoy their experience at Sunrise. One dissatisfied member of our community is one too many. Please contact us at information@sunriseseniorliving.com so that we can learn more. Thank you.

All about money

This place is terrible. My mother had Dementia and lived at Sunrise Golden Valley for a few months. My mother had very typical behaviors of someone suffering from Dementia. When I met with the leasing agent, I was very specific with her behaviors and what she needed in terms of care. He told me there would be no problems and they were "experts" in dealing with her situation. They ultimately called the police on my mom and kicked her out of the facility due to her normal dementia behaviors. Do not put yourself in the same situation. Seek another facility!

Very warm friendly place. Got that feels that this is the right place for my Mom. Staff interactions with resident was kind, caring, respectful. Lunch looked and smelled good. They offer many different spacious floor plans. Looking forward to getting Mom settled in.

Lack of Care and Not Friendly

The administration was good at getting us into the community. We ended up picking my loved one up early. The staff wasn't kind to the residents.

Not memory care

My mom was at Sunrise for several months. The leasing agent assured me that Sunrise staff understood Dementia and how to help those with its symptoms. This was not the case. My mom lasted 3 months in which I would get at least 3 calls a week complaining about my mom's very symptomatic behaviors. Ultimately, she was forced to leave. It was a terrible experience for my mom and my family.

Happy and Well Cared For

My ratings are based on my experience prior to COVID. My loved one seems to be happy and well cared for at Sunrise of Golden Valley. We were able to visit once a week outside. The memory care rooms are great and my loved one has their own bedroom, bathroom and living room. This makes it feel like a little apartment. I like this for my loved one.

My review of Sunrise since COVID

I would want others to know when looking into Sunrise that when we put my loved one in there it was wonderful, but once COVID hit, the care seemed to go way down hill as well as the cleanliness of his room. The house keeping has been slacking and I had to ask the CNAs to help and clean his room since we are not able to visit as often. Otherwise, the communication has been great from the staff members as well as the attentiveness and helpfulness.

A really decent place.

I think it is a really decent place. The hospice services were really good. The food was okay. The room sizes were nice they have different floor plans. They have very good soundproofing in the building. There is not really any outdoor space.

Right Level of Care

My mom is not as happy with the food as she was at the previous place. She is now at the place she needs to be to get the care she needs. We like the size of the community. My brother liked the size of the common areas and the layout. Sunrise offered the best level of care that my mom needs. We look forward to being able to use the outdoor space and the patio. The community is right next to a park.

Sunrise is a friendly community with many positive amenities. The staff seems dedicated and genuinely cares for it's community members. The rooms were a bit small and a little dated but clean and assessable for wheelchairs, etc. Overall a nice place.

Sad for my mom. - Loved one of resident/client
When they tell you they staff the place they are lying.

They only staff the assisted living with 2 home health aides for evenings and nights. Hence residents fall all the time, because they get tired of waiting for staff to help them and try to get up on their own, and fall. They only schedule 2 staff for all of the assisted living, because management believes that's all they need. They don't have a nurse call when there is a fall, the home health aide calls, who can't answer questions. I know my mother sat on the floor for over an hour after a fall. They will then lie and say your family member was confused. They didn't even report one fall, I found out from an aide when I was there that they were covering. My main reason for placing my mom there was because [name removed] said it was staffed and we wouldn't have the same problems there as we did at Covenant. We found my mother in a cold puddle of urine in her wheelchair shortly after she moved in. Aides didn't even have time to change sheets. Clothes weren't washed. They had lots of activities to keep them busy. However when I would attend a music activity there would be no aides in attendance and I talked to them about the danger of someone falling. I told them people would stand up, or try to stand up and a staff needs to be in there. They didn't change a thing and someone fell in a music activity that day! Then they tried to get me to say they didn't hit their head, I told them I didn't see the fall and they should assume he did hit his head. Doubtful they did anything but bring him back to his room. Remember they will look you in the eye and lie. This includes [names removed] and worst of all [name removed].

A loving daughter - Loved one of resident/client
Sunrise of Golden Valley - Thank you...

Last June my Mother was admitted to Sunrise of Golden Valley's memory care unit. At the same time she was put under hospice care as her physical health was rapidly declining. This was an extremely emotional and traumatic time for her and for my family, however, we were thankful to find a place that was willing and able to care for our Mother who suffered with the terrible effects of Alzheimer's disease. With the support of the Sunrise community and North Memorial Hospice staff, we were able to move my Mother within less than a week from her family home of 40 years to her final home at Sunrise. As we held vigil for my mother, we saw that both the day and night shift caregivers were exceptionally compassionate and attentive not only to our Mother’s needs, but to our family’s as well. For this, we will never be able to express our gratitude fully. Sunrise of Golden Valley helped ease the pain of transition for our Mother with love. We would recommend their facility to anyone looking for a warm and home like place for their loved one to live and spend the their final days surrounded by people who truly care.
