The food is great. My loved one just got involved with activities. My loved one is also, starting to get more comfortable with the community and getting out of their shell. The staff is very caring, kind, and gentle. Irelaly like the staff, and they are very good with the patients. One reason I chose this place, is because I really appreciate the staff. The first week, there was an assigned family liason person, who helped with everything. In addition, they send a weekly activities report which shows what my loved one is doing each week.... The techs were okay and did the best they could under the circumstances. I think it was an issue with the administrative staff. They need to take a closer look at how they run the facility and the help they provide, because it's not adequate. With 38 clients, they only had two techs and a med aide on the floor on each shift. And the med aide doesn't assist with patient care like bathing, etc. That's not enough care staff to handle that many patients with various levels of dementia. My mom was supposed to stay there for 30 days for respite care, and by the 5th day, I took her back home. She had not been assisted with her meals. She was left soiled. And she fell, unwitnessed, or so they say. She had a large hematoma on her right hip. I took her to the ER to be assessed, whereas they did nothing and had no clue what to do. I'm grateful I'm a nurse and have that knowledge and background. If you don't, I would urge you to think twice before putting your loved one here. Because it turned out to be a horror, even with me staying there with her during those five days from 9 am -11 pm, with only a break for dinner. The activities person looked right at me every day and never once approached me to invite my mom to participate. The girls on the floor were sweet, but it was jus impossible for them to provide adequate care.

Response from Poet's Walk Round Rock
January 20, 2023Thank you for your review. We are deeply disappointed in your experience and want to learn more. Please email us with a phone number we can call at info@springhills.com.
I toured Poet's Walk Round Rock and I really liked it, but it was a little too big for my husband to feel comfortable. He doesn't do well with large settings, plus the fact that they bring everyone out to the common area to participate in activities. Sometimes he doesn't want to be around people and I was afraid he wouldnt adapt well. Having dementia, you never know which version of him you'll get - the happy one or the one who doesn't want to be around anyone; I would've chose Poet's Walk otherwise.

Response from Poet's Walk Round Rock
January 20, 2023Dear Terry, Thank you so much for your positive review. We appreciate the time you took to tell us your story.
Her laundry was lost a lot and it took them a while to react to her needs. Sometimes the head nurse was not very nice. When we had issues she took offense to what we were saying. There were several every day staff members that were compassionate during our stay. She passed away from covid and I think the facility should have had stricter protocols during that time. Nobody has reached out since our loved ones passing and that shocked us - we never felt any compassion from them and that has been very disappointing.

This is an excellent place for your loved one. The community is only five years old, and the best value for your dollar. The staff communication with the family is excellent. They are willing to remedy concerns quickly and they have an open door policy when it comes to the family's questions.

The front end experience is wonderful. I was not rushed through the process, they made sure that I was in the right frame of mine for my loved one. The staff are friendly and proactive in caring for my loved one. The community is very clean. I feel that the community could use some additional assistance; however, I feel this is most anywhere currently. No community is perfect. Overall I would feel comfortable recommending someone place their loved ones here.

We recently moved my mother from here. They were continually short of staff. On several occasions there was no nurse on duty. About the time we got to know mothers care givers they quit. This was so frustrating for us and for mother. When we visited all the patients were just sitting in front of the television with no interaction. The moment I saw a patient dripping wet through her clothes I knew it was time to go.

They take very good care of the residents at this community. They do everything that they can to make the transition easy on the family. They also listen to anything that the family has to say good or bad. This community has also been very open to correcting any errors that may have risen for my loved one. They have activities at this community like word games, group activities, coloring and word searches and more for the residents to stay busy and active in the community.

During our loved ones stay we had no issues at all, we always felt that everybody there embraces doing the best. No matter who the day to day staff were, the cleaning crew picking up the building or the kitchen staff serving the meals, they all were very attentive to not only the residents needs but their families. Every time we came to visit they always had something going on for the residents to participate in. They weren't just piled into a room together and watching TV, there was always someone there conducting some sort of activity which we thought was super. They even go our loved one to join their painting classes.

We had a little bit of a rocky start with her medications, but since she has settled in things are going great. Poet's walk is strictly a memory care facility and we liked that they specialize in that type of care. It is a smaller facility with more personalized and intimate care. They have a lot of activities provided and so she is not in her room a whole lot. It is quite expensive but they do provide great quality of care and the staff really know what they are doing. I would definitely recommend to others looking for memory care.

We have been so pleased with our experience so far with, the staff have just been fantastic. Since it is only memory care the staff have been phenomenal with their residents. This is the best place for our loved one with her state or memory loss. There is a stimulating environment which is helping slow down the decline in memory loss. The staff are constantly engaged and interacting with one another

Since my loved one has been here the community has been very welcoming. They even had a welcoming event and was greeted by the staff the first day my loved one moved in. The staff communication with the family has been wonderful. They have been great at communicating any concerns as well. This has been a good move for my loved one.

Our family had an in person tour and this would of been a great option but they have limited visiting hours and that was just not going to work out for us.
Our loved one really enjoys the meals and dining service, he says constantly how much he loves the meals. There are activities going on everyday which our loved one goes to when promoted. We find the facility to be very well trained in memory loss, they have all been wonderfully supportive and very caring. They explain everything to us, no matter the situation they always keep up constant communication. I would recommend this community to everyone, we are so impressed.

It's a nice place. It's clean and friendly. It's not overpopulated or understaffed. Outings are on hold due to the pandemic, but they're doing what they can inside. I would like to see a larger outdoor space. But I like that they have parakeets inside. It's expensive, but I feel like you're getting what you're paying for. And It's cheaper than other places that we looked at.

We toured probably 12 different facilities, but we came back to Poet's Walk for a second and third visit because they seemed to offer more technology that could really look at the patient and see how they were doing. Also, they have a social media link that allows the family to stay in touch with their loved one. We felt that was pretty important. Everyone has been just over and above in being patient and kind with all of our questions. Our loved one says the food is very good, and she has no complaints. I would like to see activities pick up a little bit more. The activities might be better for those with lesser cognitive skills, but our loved one has needed something a little more engaging. I think they're trying to address that though, and I know they recently hired an activities director. So hopefully that should improve things considerably.

I would tell others to stay away and not go there. The community didn't seem to get my loved one their meals. My loved one had missing clothing. There were medication problems with my loved one. One medication that was given to little to my loved one. It seems the community and staff didn't read the chart correctly. I had several people tell me to get my loved one out of Poet's Walk. I'm not sure if the staff are uncaring, or them not reading things correctly. I am very disappointed with this community. Communication is lacking with the staff to the family.

My father lived at Poet's Walk Round Rock for several years before he passed away in December of 2019. The staff were extremely kind, patient and caring. They put up with my dad's quirky ways with calm and grace. They were always game to joke with him. Sure there were a few glitches; no one is perfect and the work they do is difficult and tiring, both emotionally and physically. But I wouldn't hesitate to have them care for another loved one, should the need arise.
