For us and this sounds crazy, what really sold the deal was the lack of smell - there was no fowl odor anywhere throughout the community and no overwhelming scent of disinfecting spray and other cleaning supplies. The staff members are very nice people and they are doing very well caring for our loved one. Our loved one seems satisfied with the meals and dining service. We have recommended this community to others and will continue to do so.
This community seemed to be sufficient but more expensive. The facility was pretty large and there were a lot of activities and my loved one did not have a need for all of this due to his conditio. They were friendly and helpful and willing to answer all questions I had about this community.
Manor Lake Athens is a very nice facility, it was just too expensive for us.
In the beginning we would of given Manor Lake a 5 out of 5, it was fabulous but now it is much lower. There is major room for improvement that needs to be done. The food has really declined, there are a lot of issues happening. House keeping has been lacking, it took months for our loved ones room to get cleaned. The day to day staff is struggling with keep a consistent schedule. Due to the struggle with staffing a lot of things we are paying for is not getting done. However the upper management staff team is very responsive to any questions or concerns we have. The activities are great, but its the quality of life that needs help addressing. The facility itself is beautiful, they keep it very very clean and well decorated.
Our family applied for assisted living because our loved ones needed 24/7 around the clock care. They told our family they could handle our loved ones care, but in reality they were just not equipped. They were short of help, and if our loved ones pushed the help button it could take an upwards of 30 minutes for someone to respond, so they did not come in a timely fashion. It was a beautiful facility, but it was just not a good fit for our loved ones. If your loved ones do not need much assistance this would be a good community for them.
The people are great. I don't like they were only doing window visits, I was having to push the issue to be able to see my loved one. All the residents were wearing masks and my loved one still contracted COVID. I know the community was following the state guidelines though. They recently opened up for in person visits. My loved one seems to be happy here.
