We are very happy with this community and it was a great choice for mom. When she first moved in, she wasn't comfortable going to the dining room. They were so understanding and delivered her meals to her, which was wonderful. She is satisfied with the food. Their pricing does include 3 meals a day, which I learned during our selection process isn't always the case. They have a pool and a movie theatre.. The residents all have positive things to say. The facility is clean. I feel really comfortable having mom here. Communication with the family is excellent. However, there was some confusion with the pricing in the beginning. When we signed the lease, the prices on the price sheet were different than what we were given during the tour. They apologized and explained that we were given an old price sheet. So I would recommend that they fix that. They do housekeeping once a week and mom's unit is always clean. She also has a washer/dryer in the unit. Some units also have a patio. One of the things that I really like is the diversity of the community. The staff is excellent. It's affordable and the location is close to us. I would recommend them to friends and family.... They need to collaborate with hospice and the doctors better and not leave it up to the families to figure the medical side of things out. They could improve on actually following through with the promises made and meet the expectations - that improvement would go a long way.

The director and staff are very good, however, the quality and the condition of the facility leaves something to be desired. They do have a pending remodel and it does need it, but its still a good facility in my opinion. Communication between the staff and me & my family has been very good. They always get in touch with me, and they usually contact me by phone call. Their memory care unit is all on one floor, and I do feel that Homestead is a safe and secure place for my loved one. The only complaint that anyone could have is on the state of the facility itself, but again they're addressing that. Overall I would recommend Homestead Estates of Wichita to others.

[name removed] the director is really helpful and will do anything he can to assist you. [name removed] the activities director is amazing. She takes you to doctors appointments, different activities, etc. She does way more than what her title is, she is phenomenal and a huge asset to the facility. The both of them know each and every residents by name. The apartment sizes are great. They have trouble keeping kitchen staff, so the food is very hit or miss depending on the day. Overall I would absolutely recommend Homestead Estates to others.

We chose Homestead Estates because of the price, they were cheaper than the other places we were looking into and they also offered memory care. The room sizes in memory care were average to other places. The facility did change hands about a year ago, the manager now has been in the industry a long time and his big thing is cleanliness. It is extremely clean and nice and all of the staff are very friendly. They were very easy to work, I have nothing but good things to say. I would absolutely recommend to others looking, we were very impressed.

Our family had an in person experience and everything was really nice we had a good tour. However, the community was bigger then what we were looking for, we thought our loved one would have trouble navigating the place, but it was our second choice.
We were very impressed with the facilities & the staff at Homestead Estates, it is a very nice place. The only thing standing in our way was the cost. The lowest monthly payment would be $3800, dad only makes $3500 a month & makes some monthly bill payments. We have no other source of income. The staff seemed very friendly, the apartments were very spacious & the facilities were very clean.I could see my dad living there, if we could afford it.

We chose Chaucer Estates because of the affordability and the community is all one level, there are no stairs or elevators which was something we were looking for. For independent living, they have little foreplexes as well. I would absolutely recommend to others looking.

My mom has been at Chaucer for 1 1/2 years and they take EXCELLENT care of her needs. The staff is attentive and caring, and there have been several times when staff really went above and beyond to cater to her desires and needs. My mom enjoys the staff and the other residents at Chaucer. It's been a great new home for mom!

You need to be diligent and go often to get to know the staff taking care of your loved one. My mom did not like the food. The layout of the community and room sizes are adequate. They have a nice outdoor courtyard for residents to use. They have a high turn over rate for staff.

Response from Homestead Estates of Wichita
June 26, 2020Thank you Charyl for sharing your experience. We use feedback to make our community a great place to live and will pass all your comments to our management team.
Mom has lived at Chaucer for 5-7 years. She passed away [date removed]. Everyone was great and Mom liked it very well. When she passed away a lot of the staff and nurses shed a lot of tears. Staff and nurses do a great job, food good, rooms clean and a very busy activity center. Different programs all the time. I would recommend Chaucer very much. Will miss seeing staff and nurses.

Response from Homestead Estates of Wichita
December 23, 2019James-- Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with other families. It was an honor to care for your mother and as you know, she is missed. Warm wishes to you going forward and of course you are always welcome to stop in and say hi - we'd love it!
Very nice - Probably Assisted living a better choice. Nice 1 bedroom with a den. Everything on ground level. Pet friendly - just not convenient to put dog out, as no back door.

Our mother recently passed away. She had been at Chaucer Estates for almost 5 years. During that time we did not ever have any problems with the care that they provided her. They checked on her frequently and were good to her.

January 16, 2019Hi Dan! Thank you for giving us your seal of approval! The perspectives of our residents and their families mean so much to us!
Chaucer has been a good transition for mom and appreciate [name removed] at A Place for Mom for helping us find this senior community for her. The price is good for what she receives, the meals and activities are good and the independent housing is perfect for her now with advancement in care if /when she needs it.

Response from Homestead Estates of Wichita
December 14, 2018Hi Tammy! Thank you for sharing your confidence in us! We appreciate your feedback and are so pleased that your mom is enjoying her home here at Chaucer Estates!
I am still waiting for a refund check and it has been 60 plus days since his date of death for a refund check to settle his estate. No records are kept on response calls; so I question the validity of having those in the small cottages on the grounds.

My mom was staying here before she had to go into rehab and after she left rehab to come back, they wouldn’t take her back. The nurse that had been working with my mom said that she was at the same level of care as she was before leaving, however the new director disagreed and said she was past a level of care that they could handle even though she had never actually met my mom or done an evaluation. They’ve had some significant management turnover it seems and they seem to be going downhill a great deal. I would not recommend them.

Response from Homestead Estates of Wichita
January 10, 2018Thank you for taking time to provide us with your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience at Chaucer Estates did not live up to the expectations we strive for. It’s important to us that we understand and address your concerns, so we invite you to reach out to our Executive Director at our community phone number. Thank you again for your input, and we look forward to hearing from you!
At first we were very excited about Chaucer, but they have seriously gone downhill. They have had serious changes in Management. The Executive Director, Marketing Director and Director of Wellness (Nursing) (DON) all left around the same time. We loved them all. Now there are new people who don't really know my Mom. My Mom became ill with a viral infection and ended up in the hospital. After she was ready to leave the hospital they suggested she go to a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) to build back her strength so she went to Regent Park SNF. When she was ready to return back to Chaucer, an assessment needed to be done by Chaucer for her return. The Care Assessment was set up but I was not notified when it was being done and was called afterward with the results. The DON took a nurse with her who she said was familiar with my Mom's care, but again I was not included in the assessment which I believe family is to be included. I could have advocated for Mom and the fact that she is hard of hearing does not help the situation. I could have helped with that. Afterward the DON called and told me, "based on the information she received from Regent Park, she could not return to Chaucer due to her medical needs". According to Regent Park's Nurse who also sat in on the assessment the Nurse who was familiar kept saying during the assessment that the things Regent Park was helping with was the same things Chaucer was helping with before so....HER LEVEL OF CARE HAS NOT CHANGED. Regent Park's Nurse agreed with this assessment based on the things said during the assessment. The DON from Chaucer told me that due to her NOT being able to walk to the dining room AND the fact that they did not have an RN on duty at night, they would not be able to take her back. REALLY? A lot of the residents do NOT walk to the dining room AND doesn't Chaucer have to have an RN on duty to be in compliance with the State??? How can you operate without a RN on staff at night. Things happen at night with the elderly. The Physician Assistant at Regent Park even told me "this should not have happened and I am doing my best to talk to Chaucer to correct this" He was getting Mom's insulin which was temporary adjusted off her list so that would not even be a problem. I feel this was an injustice to my Mom and she did not deserve this!! What a horrible way to treat someone when that is all Mom wanted was to return to Chaucer with the people she cared about. The family feels we were lied to and mislead and not even asked to attend my Mom's assessment as an advocate. SHAME ON YOU Chaucer!! This caused a lot of stress for my Mother who said she just wanted to die now. Also, the stress of having 1 week to find another place was just exhausting and so sad for us all. By the way, My Mom did not have to go to a nursing home as the DON was suggesting. She is in another Assisted Living in Wichita. I would not recommend this place to anyone!!!

At first my Mom loved this place and she was so happy. Loved most of the staff and believe most loved her as well. They have had a lot of turnover since moving in about 2 years ago. Mom became ill and was sent to the hospital then to a Skilled Unit to build up strength. When she was ready to go back to Chaucer, her level of care had returned to the place where she was before the hospital...so same level of care. This is what I heard from the PA and from the Staff at the Skilled Care Facility. BUT, when the Director of Nursing came with a Nurse to assess her for her return to Chaucer...things took an ugly and unfair turn. The Director does not know my Mother very well but the Nurse did. The nurse at the SCF was in on the assessment and said the Nurse from Chaucer agreed every time that the things they were doing at the SCF were the same...Nothing had changed. But when she was going to be dismissed from SCF, I was told they could NOT take her back. The reasons given were that Mom could not walk to the dining room. They have many residents who can not walk to the dining room and that they had no RN at night. Now...how can they operate legally with no RN at night??? They have residents with lots of needs...,not just my Mom. The staff at the SCF tried to justify that my Mom should be able to go back there...and this was all she wanted. The answer was still no. The PA was adjusting medication which should not have been a problem as well. There was no real answer why she could not go back other than she was turned away unfairly. I know I could go back there and find several whose needs were at the same level or higher than my Moms. Many thought this was a horrible way to treat my Mother who only wanted to return where she was happy and NO reason she should have been turned away. I also was not told when this assessment was going to take place so I could advocate for my Mom. I feel had I been there it would have been a different outcome...but I was not included nor told when it was going to take place. This a sad way to treat the elderly when they still have their independence and should be allowed to live where they can live and thrive. This whole ordeal has diminished my Mom's mental well being. I would encourage anyone to think this through before deciding to place your loved one here.... I am not just a disgruntled family member as they may try to justify it by saying that. I miss the original Executive Director [Removed], The previous Nursing Director,[Removed] the Marketing Manager who we grew to love. They left this place all about the same time.... They had a kind heart. Not sure this would have happened if they still had been there. We had only 1 week to find another Assisted Living....and YES Chaucer my Mom can still go back to an Assisted Living NOT a nursing home as you suggested. They willingly took her without reservation. Shame on YOU Chaucer!!!!!!

Your first hand experiences really help others. Thanks! At first we loved this place. They have a huge turnover in employees...wonder why...? Maybe Corporate?? Mom also loved it until recently. She became ill and was sent to the hospital. She then went to a Skilled Unit. When she was ready to be released, the Skilled Facility felt she was ready to go back home. Mom was so excited and that is all she wanted. She called Chaucer home and enjoyed the residents and most of the nurses. When the Director of Nursing came with a Nurse to conduct the care assessment, everything was turned upside down. My Mom's nursing care level had not changed. The nurse from the Skilled Unit also sat in the interview. The Nurse from Chaucer that was familiar with my Mom's care said many times that the care she needs is still the same. This is a new Director of Nursing who came with the Nurse familiar with my Mom's care. Nothing had changed. Yet, Chaucer would not let her come back. The D.O.N. said that it was because she could not walk to the dining room. There are many there who do not walk to the dining room. Then it was because they had no RN in the evenings. How can you operate without an RN in the evenings??? There are many there who need a lot of care. I have seen it. I think this was an injustice to my Mom. Now, my Mom has stated she wants to die. Thank you Chaucer for taking away the only thing my Mom wanted and making her so sad!! Oh and by the way...My Mom is in a different Assisted Living now so Chaucer...you were wrong. My Mother does not need a Nursing Home!! Be careful in selecting this Assisted Living Facility. They do not know what they are doing.

My friend, and I had a nice tour of this community. Everyone was very kind to us. The staff we met was kind, and helpful. They were informative, and our questions were answered. From what we saw the community looked nice, and clean. The experience went well, but she did not feel this was the community for her.
