It took me awhile to trust that there wasn't a better place for my mom, but after she settled in and I visited her the second time (I live across the country) I found that it was a great community, where she feels safe, has friends and connections with the staff. We chose this community because they could accommodate her and her husband, who passed away days after moving in, when we expected months. The price point was better than some others too.

Clean and Friendly
Overall experience: We have had a few bumps, but they are always striving to provide the best care. Cleanliness of the facility: Much cleaner than other facilities Quality of care: I do occasionally have to reiterate certain needs. Food: It has improved with new kitchen staff Activities: I feel they do not provide as much activities like a walking group or a men's group. Value for the money: They are priced very well for the care.

Some challenges, but wouldn't disocourage people from coming here.
They could do a better job of changing their patients more often and doing laundry more often. They do take care of concerns when I mention them, but I'm paying a lot of money and shouldn't have to bring those types of things up. That being said, I looked at eight different places before selecting HeartFields, and I still think it's a better option comparatively.

We had a nice tour experience with Heartfields at Cary and found nothing wrong with it. We were happy with everything that we got to see and it would have been a perfectly fine choice for us if it came down to it. We just felt another place we were looking at fit our loved ones needs a bit better.

If you are looking for assisted living, put this facility on your list
When we looked around, the cost is what stuck out to us the most. We asked if her condition deteriorated what would happen, and they have an age in place so she would not have to move. She is in the memory care unit and it seems to be very clean, there are no odors or smells and the room is kept nice. The staff are all super friendly. The care seems to be adequate and I have had no problems so far. The food is good, she has not complained and she is eating well. I would definitely recommend Heartfields at Cary to others who are looking if it is the right fit for your loved one.

Mediocre
I wish we could have seen more of the apartment during the tour to make sure our stuff would fit into the apartment. The apartment is small overall. The place is clean. They assist with laundry. The food is lousy in my opinion. The food is like cafeteria meals like in an elementary school. There are several residents in wheelchairs here. It can seem like a traffic jam of wheelchairs during meal time.

Highly recommend
It has been a very good experience, the staff have been exceptional and gone above and beyond. They did a great job putting her on the floor that would suit her best. They have a ton of activities offered for residents to participate in if they want to. They have things going on all the time 7 day a week so there is a lot of opportunity. I really like that they have a free standing piano that people are able to play. They also have a room on each floor where people can mingle. They have outside seating available where residents can go outside and enjoy fresh air. The facility is 2 blocks away from the hospital and the medical equipment provider which is great. They are also close to 2 different supermarkets. I would definitely recommend them to others looking.

Tour of Heartfields
Our tour with Heartfields was great. The facility is beautiful and the grounds are gorgeous. It was a little too big for my dads liking. If I had to move somewhere, I would have no problem going here.

Thanks for visiting us and sharing your impressions. We're glad you had a great tour and were impressed with what you saw. While we understand that size can feel overwhelming at first, all of the amenities are close to each resident’s apartment. Our residents and team are also very welcoming, and newcomers find that they make new friendships and feel at home right away. We'd recommend seeing if your dad was interested in doing a short “Staycation” with us so he can experience our warmth and hospitality firsthand before making a decision. We can also connect you with a sister community that is smaller in size, yet has the same Five Star signature programs.

Heartfield's of Cary truly cares about their residents!
I want people to know how a very heard decision was made so much easier for me by [name removed] at Heartfield's. My mom was totally against going into an assisted living facility even after having a major surgery and not being able to function without 24-hour help. I looked at several facilities and asked on social media for recommendations, however, I felt most confident about Heartfield's. Words don't express how happy I am with the care my mom has had at Heartfield's. I am so thankful to [name removed] and Heartfield!

We would not recommend this community to anyone
Our loved on was in the memory ward and at first Heart Fields sounded like an amazing place to send your loved on to, but once they got there it wasn't true. As far as we know the residents didn't participate in any activities, they did not go on any field trips. We never knew what was going on, at times we felt left in the dark. The communication was not quiet there. The staff at times seemed rude, and that they didn't know quite how to do their job. We thought the staff needed more interaction with the residents. We felt at times there was neglect happening at this community.

A caring environment
We chose this community because of the Montessori program, it was recommended by a neighbor. We also chose it for the cost. The food is excellent, they have a good variety for the residents. They got a new chef right before COVID and her food is great. Our favorite part of the facility is the heart of the caregivers, they love all of their residents and are very patient. They are also a smaller community so the residents are more individualized.

Heart Fields At Cary
The building is a little on the older side but they do keep the community clean. The staff is very friendly. On the weekends, the care is a little lighter, but the care during the week is good. The activities are exceptional. They do things every day and compared to other communities, they really make an effort to engage the residents. I think Heart Fields is a good value considering the level of care that they offer. The food is also very good.

Do not move your family member to this facility!
Do NOT move your family member to the Memory Care Unit (referred to as "BTR") of Heartfields at Cary. The residents in the BTR live in a hot and humid basement with very few windows. They are deprived of stimulating activities and socialization. I could not get my grandmother out of that facility fast enough. The BTR Director, [name removed], should be ashamed of the way she runs the unit. I came to [name removed] with my concerns about the lack of activities for memory care residents, and she had the audacity to tell me I just must just not have noticed all the activities they have on their calendar. I have seen the calendar, and I have shown up at the times when there are supposed to be activities, but I have NEVER seen a single scheduled activity take place. I can guarantee that any time you go to the memory care unit, residents will be sitting in the windowless sitting room staring at the television. For the 8 weeks my grandmother lived there, there were NEVER any stimulating activities. Even the staff on the Assisted Living floor came to me told me that they wouldn't let their loved one live in the memory care unit. Do your family member a favor and look at a different place for them to live. There are many other facilities in the area that would provide a much more stimulating and enjoyable environment for your loved one.

A Place for Mom has scored HeartFields at Cary 8.2 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score.
