When you consider this place, move on... Don't do it
I've been in healthcare for over 10 years, and I've truly never experienced anything like this place in my entire life. Patients at this residence are truly left to their own devices. My Grandfather has only been there for 4 weeks, but it's been awful. He's a big guy- 6' 4" 200+ lbs, and completely immobile. He is occasionally put in a wheelchair which is great, except that every time I've witnessed him in a chair he is slouched to one side with half of his arm wedged into the armrest. When I say something it takes an hour for them to reposition him and he's left with welts on his arms. We brought in an egg crate to put on his mattress. The mattresses remind me of what we would camp on in Girl Scouts 30 years ago, paper thin and smell awful. That was 3 weeks ago, and the egg crate is still in the corner of his room. We've been told we aren't allowed to put it on ourselves. He has not had a haircut. The activities calendar says Wednesday's are "beauty shop" days. We have requested a hair cut every week for 3 weeks, yet it still has not been done. All his life he has gone by his middle name. We ask daily for him to be called by the name he would recognize, but they never do. He has dementia and doesn't understand much anymore, but he responds to us when we call him by his middle name. He has never gone by his first name at any point in his life. That's such a minor thing, yet the staff can't be bothered. We are trying to get him transferred, but there are no beds at any other assisted living facility nearby. We all live hours away, and come as often as possible to take care of him. My Grandmother is there everyday to be with him, but her health is bad too and she cannot help him with ADL. I've been in several nursing homes throughout my life and I've never seen anything like this. As soon as you walk in the door you'll see what I mean. Residents are completely ignored, siting in the halls in their own urine for hours. It's a nightmare. If you have ANY choice, do not allow anyone you know and love to come to this tortuous place. It's sinful the way people are treated here.
