My father has been at Avonlea Ridge since March 2017 and this was the best decision I could have made to provide the intimate top care he deserves. The owners and nursing assistants take care and treat the residents like their own family. My dad is fully dependent and immobile, so it was very important to find a place that could care for him the way I would and that he requires. He is tended to and engaged often which is extremely important. Since the owners are both nurses for over 35 years, they can provide suggestions on additional "in-home" care that your loved one may need. The home is beautiful and welcoming, clean, meals are home cooked, activities provided, and laundry (clothes and linens) washed consistently. Changes in health are brought to your attention immediately and my opinion is, since there is consistent care/monitoring, and the owners are nurses, they handle in a proactive approach. This is a split level home, so the upstairs has the bedrooms, bathrooms and common area. There are steps with an electric chair lift to go up and down if needed, so you have to decide what is a good fit for your loved one. They do have another assisted living home close by which is a rambler style home [one floor]. There is a limit of 5 residents per home to make sure top care is provided, which is a huge contrast to bigger facilities where there are usually not enough caregivers to residents, especially if the resident/your loved one requires more consistent and involved care. Avonlea Ridge is absolutely worth looking into and has given me tremendous peace of mind after having my dad at a bigger facility and having to adjust him from senior living to assisted living when his health started deteriorating, but not being able to provide the care he needed even at the assisted living level. I did not want to consider a nursing home, and was fortunate enough to find information on smaller assisted livings that are actual homes. I visited several and my choice was Avonlea Ridge!

The decision to place my father at Avonlea Ridge was the best decision I made for him. He receives daily top quality care both physically and emotionally. Avonlea Ridge provides a "home" setting with all the needed care. I would 100% recommend Avonlea Ridge to anyone looking to have their loved one taken care of.

Really upscale home. The problems I had with it is that all of the assisted living space is on the second floor, with stairs for those who can climb, and chair lifts for those who can't. I felt the gate at the top of the stairs was lacking in height and security. My mother could have figured out how to open it. I think that was my main issue. You may love it. It just wasn't for us.

My mother is a resident at the Avonlea Ridge facility on Carters Grove Drive in Silver Spring, MD. We've had a great experience at this beautiful assisted living home after moving in in early February. The owners and the staff are very caring and professional. We look forward to a more regular schedule of activities in the future. However, Avonlea provides a greater degree of personal care than other homes I've seen. They demonstrate a genuine and constant interest in the welfare of their residents.
