New York State’s variety of lifestyle options makes it an ideal retirement destination. While the hustle and bustle of New York City may be the first thing that comes to mind, the Empire State has much more to offer. From the beaches of Long Island, to Niagara Falls and the Finger Lakes out west, to the Catskill and Adirondack Mountains in the north, New York is filled with natural wonders and smaller, quieter towns.
In New York, the median monthly cost of a care home is about $3,000. However, the cost of living in a care home depends largely on location. Since the homes are private residences, costs are tied to real estate value and therefore may vary greatly.
Residential Care Home
We placed mom in the Paquette house in 2010 because she had dementia and we could no longer give her the daily care that she required. We were happily surprised to see what a nice house and neighborhood she was in. Since we live in Apalachin, a visit was only a few minutes away. At first mom didn't want to have anything to do with living there even though she was incapable of living alone. After several weeks, she began to accept the Paquette house as her home and the people as her friends. She stayed there for 3.5 years, until her death, and often said how well she was treated. It was a relief to us to have the assurance that mom was getting her medications on schedule and eating well. We found Connie Barton easy to get along with and sympathetic to our needs. I would, and do, recommend the Homesteads to anyone seeking assisted living.

The staff are great with communication and always let us know what is going on. They are super involved, there is not a lot of turnover so it feels like family. Some of the staff have been here for years. We feel like they are very transparent and honest with us and they have nothing to hide. As far as financials go, we thought it was going to be too expensive but we were pleasantly surprised at how reasonable it was. If your money runs out they also have other resources. She has adjusted very well and we would absolutely recommend them to other families looking.
