For those interested in history or outdoor recreation there is the First Landing State Park. This park marks the spot of the 1607 arrival of the first Jamestown colonists from England. The Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center offers over 800,000 gallons of fresh and saltwater displays showcasing sea turtles, komodo dragons, cuttlefish, and rays. The city has great public art installations including a giant statue of King Neptune and a beautiful Naval Aviation Monument. The Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art offers a rotating gallery of installations.

Transportation

Public transit is provided by Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) which operates several bus routes and the VB Wave. Wave shuttles are a popular and easy way to get around the Virginia Beach oceanfront. These shuttles make stops along Atlantic Avenue, the Virginia Aquarium, Ocean Breeze WaterPark, the Holiday Trav-L-Park and the KOA campgrounds on General Booth Boulevard and the Shops at Hilltop.
