Assisted living communities arrange organized living communities and aid to people who need help with taking medication or dressing. Assisted living communities frequently provide outings for social activity, aid with daily activities, and care supervision. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide skilled nursing, dementia care, or “aging in place”. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include Periodic opportunities for socialization, weekly housekeeping, assessments of the residents physical and cognitive needs by a registered nurse, and assistance with self-administration of medication. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include the instructions must be written, the person must demonstrate competence in following the instructions, and assistance with self-administration of medications. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include housing with service establishments that use the term assisted living must provide two meals per day. Public assistance is available through Medicaid 1915(c) Waiver programs (Elderly, Traumatic Brain Injury, Community Alternatives for Disabled Adults, and Community Alternative Care).
