An assisted living community is a residential community which offers care, supervision, and assistance to self-sufficient individuals who are not in need of skilled nursing care. Assisted living communities often provide outings for leisurely activity, help with daily activities, and assistance with transit and appointments. In select instances, communities may offer respite, continuing care, or nursing care. In Kansas, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $53,670 . The state of Kansas has a number of provisions related to this kind of community. The Secretary of Aging and Disability Services certifies this community type. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include housekeeping, supervised nursing care, dental, and social transportation.
