Assisted living communities arrange organized living communities and aid to people who require support with things such as preparing meals or mobility. Assisted living communities commonly provide aid with transportation and appointments, supervision of care, and outings for organized activity. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide respite, dementia care, or continuing care. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . Illinois has specific standards associated with this kind of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health supervises this type of community. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include non-medical services, emergency response systems, housekeeping, and assistance with activities of daily living. Staff must obtain education in a number of fields. These areas include philosophy and goals, neglect prevention, residents’ need and service plans, and internal policies. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include medication reminders, documenting whether or not the resident took the medication, and reading the medication label to residents. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. There must be one bath or shower for every residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. The maximum occupancy is 1 residents per room. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as provider must ensure that the resident and the resident’s representative, if any, are informed of the potential consequences of activities that the provider considers to pose risks to health and/or safety, evaluation of a prospective resident’s physical condition, A comprehensive assessment, and evaluation of a prospective resident’s cognitive condition.
