Assisted living communities offer oversight, healthcare, and social events to individuals who are on average 65 years old. Assisted living communities frequently offer aid with appointments and transit, care supervision, and chances for social activity. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer respite, hospice, or continuing care. In Alabama, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $39,000 . This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 2. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include self-administration of medication if capable. Staff members obtain education in a variety of subjects. These areas include 19 years of age, needs of the elderly, mentally ill, and intellectually disabled, nutritional needs of the elderly, and identifying and reporting abuse, neglect and exploitation.
