The staff is very friendly and helpful. They do offer activities, but it is limited to old people stuff, per mom. They come and clean and do laundry once a week. The place is always clean when I visit. I would recommend them to family and friends.

A game changer for my parents.
My dad needed extra care that we could no long handle. My mother went kicking & screaming as she was not ready to be in an assisted living facility. However, she found the staff very friendly, loving and compassionate. She met some wonderful friends there and within the 1st week was asked to be on the resident council. She is excited to be in a place with folks her own age and with staff that have now become her family. When we brought my dad there, he was in a wheelchair and with little strength. A few days later, he was playing the piano (hadn't played in over 5 years) and helping with the resident sing-a-long. He can now walk with a walker to the restroom, or help with his own transfers. It's a miracle!

A great place
So far everything is going really good. Everyone is really helpful and they always try to help. The food is good but it could use some improvement. The activities could also use improvement. The schedule says something but it does not always happen. It does need some adjustments. I even tell my friends about this community. It is a great place but just like anywhere else it needs some improvement. With the food maybe they can even make some Chinese food every now and then.

Consider placing your parent at Brookdale Walnut.
It's a pretty nice place. The staff is definitely friendly. I think because they're going through some changes and renovations, the food stuff might be a bit challenging, but other than that, I think it's a good place.

Great Community
Overall I was pretty pleased with Brookdale Walnut. My loved one eventually needed additional care. I ended up taking my loved out of the community. During this time I found a few things in their room that I thought should've been done differently. The administration team was great!

Absolutely loved the outdoor space, especially in the assisted living area, although there was ample secure outdoor space also for memory care. First impressions of staff were very positive, as was their interaction and ability to care for the memory care residents.

Facility was clean and decent. Disappointed that when we called they had openings, but when we arrived 20 minutes later they had no rooms available. It was "waiting list only". Nonetheless, the room fee plus the care level fees were extremely HIGH in comparison to other similar facilities in nearby cities.

Nice Place
I had recently taken a tour of this community and I have no complaints of how things had went. The staff where on time to our appointment and made sure to answer any questions I had for them in detail. I liked the floor layout and thought they had a nice selection of amenities for the residents that where there. It was just no the right fit for us location wise in the end decision.

I like to say that I love this place because it has a home feeling to however the food isn't all that good . The sell was that they'll cook "anything " you want is false. The dinner staff gets a 1 and a half. One employee is rude and doesn't listen to the request of some of the residents. I sat at a table with a man named [Removed] and he ask the server for ice cream and he waited over 25 minutes for it.There were 3 servers and about 15 residents; I think it can be better. For the prices we pay the food selection should be better . Activities are half hearted at best. I guess since most of these people aren't cognitive they don't seem to care.

My mother has recently moved into this community and so far I have no complaints of how things are going for her. The staff are friendly and I am comfortable with the care they have been providing her. She has had no complaints about the meals and enjoys participating in activities from time to time with the other residents. Overall we are happy and would recommend it to anyone.

A Place For My Husband!!
I feel that my loved one is in a positive atmosphere. The staff always have a smile on their face. My loved one does say that the food doesn't have much taste to it. Cristina took care of an incident that we had in my loved ones room. The housekeeping is only done once a week. It would be good if they did it more than once because my loved is not able to clean anything and when we go visit the room is not very clean or organized.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the California regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about California regulations for Assisted Living.

A Place for Mom has scored Walnut Valley Senior Living 8.9 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
