TWIN OAKS GUEST HOME provides excellent one-on-one care for residents. At Twin Oaks, the caregiver-resident ratio is much higher than what we have found in larger facilities, such as assisted living (ALF) and skilled nursing care (SNF). With their last new hire having been more than five years ago, Twin Oaks’ staff turnover is very low, which yields more consistent and individual attention to each person's special needs, such as diet, medical care, physical and social activity and quality of life. Each member of the Twin Oaks staff has many years of professional caregiving experience. Coupled with their close attention and familiarity with each resident, they are better able to observe signs that a change or medical attention is needed—earlier than had occurred in other facilities. Twin Oaks maintains relationships with in-home health care companies that bring registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists in under the resident’s insurance. Twin Oaks goes above and beyond merely performing a checklist of requirements as they strive to keep each resident's quality of life as good as it can be for as long as possible. BELOW, EXPERIENCE WITH OTHER FACILITIES (PRIOR TO TWIN OAKS) IS DESCRIBED FOR THE PURPOSE OF COMPARISON. IN OTHER FACILITIES, I witnessed lack of sufficient care due to staff rotation, staff turnover, poor communications among staff, failure to provide needed assistance with insurance reimbursements, lack of experience in primary caregivers, lack of timely recognition of infection (until it was flagged by the resident or resident’s family, many times), on-call doctors that did not call back at night (even in a case of severe sepsis), and a lot of lost belongings. And, they charge more! Other facilities that we previously used or evaluated for family included skilled nursing care (SNF) and assisted living. SNFs in this area have 80 - 99 beds and may have only 1 or 2 RNs on duty for everyone. That means "skilled" care is only available for a few minutes per shift per resident. Across two prior facilities, nearly all care was provided by certified nursing assistants (CNAs). It seems that in spite of their certification, most were not qualified to be caring for people that have medical, dietary or other needs. They neglected diet for a prolonged period and demonstrated a failure to recognize and report signs of illness to the nurse. The few very good CNAs that we met were often temporary due to rotation to another wing or perhaps job change. In one prior facility, repeated neglect led to serious illness with CCU hospitalization and long-term injury. "Skilled nursing care" facilities that we used presented a myth of providing a level of expertise that was not present most of the time. The nurses that we met seemed qualified, but were spread too thin with too many patients. In addition, the “on call” doctor for those other facilities did not call back in a timely manner which also triggered hospitalization. Physicians that billed for services did not return calls to family and due to lack of communications among facility staff, it was not possible to get a complete update on medical status. The woman that recommended TWIN OAKS to me said they have a “stellar” reputation. Now I know why and I highly recommend Twin Oaks.... Read more

My Mom loves Twin Oaks. It was the best choice for her to be in a smaller home and not get lost in a larger Assisted Living community. The caregivers really do care about the ladies - this is not just a job to them.

Twin Oaks does not have staff to help residents get in /out of bed or help with bathroom activities. Twin Oaks is a retirement home not assisted living facility.

My mom loves her new place, enjoys the food, caretakers and other clients. She quickly settled in to her new environment with help from the staff. I had planned on a larger assisted living site but the hominess of the smaller facility is perfect for my mom at this time.
