I had a very good experience
The Willows was a very nice community that had plenty to offer. It has more of a family feel and more of a home atmosphere than even some of the other board and care homes. The owner makes her guests feel like family.

Look for a better alternative
The facility and the administrator are showing their age. The facility is dirty and infested with insects - see CA state licensing complaints. The staff are pleasant and capable, however they only cover ~10-12 hrs of each day. The rest of the time, its just the administrator, and she frequently didn't respond to calls made by my dad in the middle of night. There were also some personality clashes, but that's just the way my dad and the administrator were - both too old to change. If you're local and able to visit often and regularly, might be OK. Look elsewhere if your loved one is bedridden or in need of constant supervision - this facility is not equipped to handle full time care. If you're squeamish about dirty food prep areas, don't go in the kitchen - in addition to being dirty, I frequently witnessed leftover food left out for several hours before being refrigerated. If you're an architect or in the know about structure stability, don't study the hillside (slowly sliding away from home), the exterior elevated walkways (rickety), nor the cracks in the walls. And don't be late with your payment - that makes the administrator VERY cranky.

I think the staff management who run it are very patient and willing to ignore a lot to make sure that the residents are comfortable. They are very committed and they seem to work hard to make sure they are getting proper care.

Great Community
The Willows is a very good community. They are very on top of things. The woman in charge does a very good job. She has a sense of humor that you will either really like or dislike. We really liked it. Some might say that she is strict but you can tell she is just looking out for the well being of the residents. I would recommend this community to anyone looking to laugh and have a good time. If you are visiting during meal times you better be ready to eat because you will be invited to enjoy a meal.

Very Happy!
Nothing is perfect but they're pretty good. They are the only place that we looked at that even offered a shared room and encouraged it. You get more for your money there. It has more of a family feel and more of a home atmosphere than even some of the other board and care homes. The owner makes her guests feel like family. She encourages shared rooms and bonding with other residents. Having a shared room has been better for my mother at this point in her life. She feels more secure.
The food is fabulous and they have an excellent open door policy. Everytime I go over there my mom says "Come on, have lunch with us!"
The owner and caregivers are really conscientious and very sensitive to the emotional needs of the clientele there. We're very, very happy!
