About the community

A NEW HOME ON THE LAKE — Small and Intimate yet Grand
The Lake Merritt is an independent lifestyle community designed especially for older adults who want to remain active and engaged with life yet are ready to relinquish daily tasks and home maintenance. Located directly on Lake Merritt, our community enjoys life in a grand Art Deco building hailed by the San Francisco Chronicle as 'a jewel on the lake.' We are proud of our talented and caring staff and the community of residents who enjoy each other and our unique location, programming and amenities. People love living here!

Matching our splendid architecture are beautiful and spacious apartments that offer all the charms of home. Most homes feature spectacular views of the lake or the downtown skyline. Each airy and light-filled apartment showcases a full kitchen with stainless steel appliances, abundant closet space, walk-in showers, high ceilings with crown moldings, designer wall colors, wall-to-wall carpets and more. Plus, there is peace of mind knowing that our staff is here for residents 24-hours a day.

Delicious and healthy food is served to our residents in our acclaimed public restaurant, the Terrace...

This is a lovely place filled with bright, interesting progressive people. Good food and excellent restaurants nearby.5Tke view over the Lake is spectacular. They have health aides available for hire, but also watch out for all of us.

I liked that the cafeteria is open to the public.

We liked the Lake Merritt Hotel, it's actually both independent and assisted living. I liked that their cafeteria is open to both the public and the tenants, you can order from a full menu like a restaraunt. It was a very nice place.

Great location!!! More of ...

Great location!!! More of a NYC apt feel and not what Mom's looking for. Seems she's more interested in the larger communities and would prefer a place where the assisted living component is part of the facility rather than outsourced. Dining room is amazing, love that it's also public. Staff was nice but not as energetic and interested in showing off the place as it felt at most others. Diane called today (4/30) and we spoke for a bit. She was very nice and understands this is probably not the fit for Mom. This place is about 2 blocks away from where Grandma and Grandpa lived.
