Stilwell Retirement Residence
5400 Laurel Lake Dr Waco TX 76710
Providing our residents with a comfortable, secure, friendly and affordable retirement living community is our ongoing goal. We have a dedicated staff who have been with us on average of 15 years. Low turnover of our staff adds to the sense of stablity which our residents appreciate.
Stilwell is located in a very quiet neighborhood that has changed very little in our 56 years of operation. Crossing a side street from Stilwell puts someone right on the parking lot of a Target store, a branch of the Waco Public Library, plus access to numerous shops and stores. Within 5 minutes from Stilwell, you will find banks, churches, restaurants, drug stores and much more.
There are numerous aspects of Stilwell which enhance the enjoyment of living experienced by our residents. First, we are a small, friendly and close knit community with typically around 90 residents living here. Our residents know what it's like to be the "new kid on the block" and often go out of their way to make new residents feel at home.
Next, we are a self-contained community. We provide our residents with: a store and coffee corner, a computer room with free internet service, a chapel, TV Room, library, with over 1,400 LARGE print books, a Living Room, Fitness Center, Beauty Salon, Guest Room, Patio Room, 6 different lounges, laundry facilities, dining room and an Activity Center.
Activities include exercise classes 3 days a week, a weekly chapel service, Bingo, musical programs, games, and much more.
Third, for those residents who bring a car, we provide covered parking. For those who no longer drive, we do have low cost bus transportation during the mornings, Monday through Friday. We also use our bus for special excursions around town.
Fourth, we take care of basic day to day services including: 3 good meals a day, weekly housekeeping, all maintenance service, access to a wide variety of activities and programs, plus a 24 hour emergency alert system.
Fifth, our accommodations are two different sized studio suites. Stilwell provides the carpeting and drapes, residents bring their own furniture and personal items. Our units are large enough to set up in a very comfortable living room/bedroom arrangement. Each suite includes: a built-in desk and bookcase, large clothes closet, linen closet, mini-kitchenette with a microwave, small refrigerator, plus storage space, and private bath. Each resident also has a separate storage locker for off-season clothing, luggage, boxes, etc.
Finally, as a not for profit retirement residence, our goal through the years has been to be affordable to people living on a fixed income.
Our smaller suite for one person rents for $1,550 a month. Our larger suite rents for $1,925 for one person or $2,380 a month for a couple. Our rates do include all the services listed previously, plus, water, electricity, cable TV and basic telephone service. Also, what we charge is a flat monthly rental fee which means there is no application fee, entrance fee, deposit or lease.
We welcome requests for more information and encourage you to visit us in person and see why we are proud of Stilwell and the retirement living program we provide.
