My mother has resided at Porteous Lodge for the past 8 years. She hates it there and said she only stays there because it is close to my work. She is of sound mind so I believe what she says. A positive note is that she told me they do have one good cook who makes the meals just the way the residents like them. The facility itself is outdated. They have one elevator in use to serve four floors of residents. I believe there is one bathroom on each floor to serve that entire floor. Baths are once a week if there is staff to do it. This facility needs an overhaul and a serious updating. That said, the workers there are all friendly and pleasent to residents and visitors alike. There are worse long-term care facilities in the city, but this one is far from current models and should not be at the top of the list when choosing a facility.
