Even though Hazelwood is in a terrible section of town, it's a fortress. It is surrounded by tall iron gates that you have to have a code to access. And you also have to have a code to enter the building. The newer residents seem to be of a lower socioeconomic status. And while the community has smoking rules, they are neither obeyed nor enforced. The long-time residents are friendly and partake in a lot of the activities. In some of the units that have carpet, the carpet is like brillo pads and desperately needs to be replaced with Pergo or something of that sort, to avoid rug burns if a resident falls. Also, if you have an incidence of bodily fluids on the carpet, they'll clean it but not replace it, which is disturbing. I have one of the units with the Pergo carpet and love my apartment. And I've had nothing but good interactions with the staff. Every place is going to have little things that are annoying, but overall I'm really happy here.... Read more

We moved my mother in after she lost my father, and her income was significantly reduced. This is what she can afford with only social security benefits to live on. Our initial experience was very good, the process was straight forward and it didn’t take long to apply and have her income verified. Her one bedroom unit is clean and comfortable. Her rent includes all utilities (minus internet), and use of a common laundry room. The comment areas are kept clean. The parking lot needs more attention. No rating on the dining room as she doesn’t use this feature. After living at Hazelwood for a year my mother has reported that the change in management has not been positive for the community. Maintenance is slow with repairs. The no smoking policy is not enforced. The reception desk is rarely staffed now. Security issues are more frequent. Non residents (i.e. homeless or friends) are entering the building at the street level, staying with residents, and using the common area restrooms.

The process was smooth. The manager we worked with was helpful. The neighborhood isn't as good as it could be; however, I feel my loved one is safe and the security is good. I would recommend this community if you are in a similar financial situation.

There is a wide variety of residents here, including a wide range of age groups. If you have a pet, it might not be a good place. There's just a small patch of grass to take them out, and you have to leave the property to walk them since there's really no place for that on-site. I think that's their biggest downfall, that there's not enough room for animals. In general, the place itself is pretty good. My loved one has had a couple of maintenance issues that have taken a while to resolve. It's an older place and starting to show wear. But from what I've seen, it looks very clean. Overall everyone has been very welcoming to her. The intake lady was fabulous. They have activities posted when they're able to offer them. With the pandemic, activities are not currently going on. But otherwise, they have a nice variety - crafts, bingo, the general things you would see anywhere. Heat and cable are included in the monthly rent, as well as laundry centers where they don't charge to use the machines, which is phenomenal to me.

Our families experience has been great so far, and one of the deciding factors was the value. It is great and it is more of an al la cart value so we can pick and choose what our loved ones need. Also our loved ones have a kitchen in their apartment so they still have a sense of independence.

I chose this facility at the time because it was a better price over some others that I looked into. The apartment sizes here are very adequate. When the kitchen was open, the food being served was very good. You option to just pay rent or you can add meals onto there as well, I just changed to rent only. Overall, I would recommend, they try really hard. Prior to covid I was quite happy here.

I have lived here for four months, and have found it a great experience. Friendships develop quickly, and there are people here from all walks of life, with fascinating histories. Many use walkers, some are in wheelchairs. Pets are allowed; I enjoy meeting them, too! The apartments are well designed, with large windows in the living room/kitchen area. Meals are included in the monthly rent, and are quite good. It is very easy to gain weight here! There are several activities offered, such as pinochile, rummy cubes, huge jigsaw puzzles, Friday afternoon cocktails and entertainment, a large on-site library, and a huge outdoor patio with astroturf on the second floor of the building. There is extremely good security, gated parking, and two bus lines and the MAX are within two blocks of the building. I’m glad I live here!

The Hazelwood is just a phenomenal community. The director, [Removed] was super helpful, nice, and patient, especially during move in. The place itself is very nice, and the price is great. The community is set up well, and it's in a good location. They have a lot of activities going on within the community, and it feels very homey and comfortable. I would certainly recommend The Hazelwood to others.

I would give Hazelwood a 5. The staff has been very helpful, the food is good, they have several options during mealtimes, and I find the community to be clean and tidy. They do have many activities as well including a bus that takes residents on several trips a week. I would definitely recommend the community to others.

My dad has recently made the move into this community and I have no complaints of how things are going for him. The staff have been helpful with the transition and made sure to accommodate all of his needs to the best of there ability. I liked the apartments they had available as well other great amenities for the residents. Overall it has been fine and I would recommend it to anyone.

The community was nice enough however the apartment we were in was getting to be too big for us. The community at the end of us living there started to go down hill it was not maintained and not as clean as it use to be. The staff seemed to be not as friendly and there tended to be more of a turn over in staffing then years past.

From what I have seen the staff are nice and helpful and I would recommend them to my family or friends. My dad has an apartment with his own full kitchen to make his breakfast. That is what he really wanted and the reason we picked this community. For the most part he likes it. He really likes the meals they prepare for the residents. They serve salad, take orders for the main entree, then serve dessert.

They've met my exceptions so far.We chose The Hazelwood because of the price. My father was able to get a one bedroom for $1,400.It's also close to where I live and there are shops and restaurants close by.

This is the perfect setting for my mother. The staff are all extremely helpful and are very attentive. She has participated in bingo and looking to participate in the other activities that they offer. Her meals are perfect they are nutritious, the taste is good, and have great portions to them. Most importantly my mother is safe here.

My mom has only been here a week and a half but so far she absolutely loves it here. The staff and renters are super friendly and genuinely happy to be there. I've talked to a lot of residents and they all have wonderful things to say. Tom, the marketing person was really helpful getting mom set up there. Thanks!

I don't deal with them all that often when in my experience they have been pretty friendly. My mom likes it there. I think the activities are good but i'm not sure my mom participates in them too much. I know my mom is pretty happy there so that's a good thing.
