Discover the many ways to pay for senior living

Planning ahead can better position you to make good choices for your loved one’s care in the future. But if your aging family member needs care now, there are ways to finance the cost of long-term care through a combination of approaches.

What are care homes?

Residential care homes are houses in residential neighborhoods that are equipped, adapted, and staffed to care for a small number of residents, usually between two and 10. Like assisted living communities, staff at care homes typically help residents with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, and medication management. Although residential care homes vary significantly depending on the community, services usually include:

  • Help with personal care
  • Medication management
  • Mobility assistance
  • Nutritious meals
  • Social activities and outings
  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry

Care Homes in Ocala, FL

Residential care homes — sometimes called care homes, board and care homes, group homes, or personal care homes — are often houses in residential neighborhoods that are adapted, equipped, and staffed to care for a small number of residents, usually 10 or less. Similar to assisted living but in a smaller, more residential setting, these homes provide supervision, organized events, and assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs). This means care homes can help with everyday routines but typically do not provide 24-hour skilled nursing assistance.

Cost of Personal Care Homes in Ocala, FL

The median monthly cost for a room in a care home in Ocala is about $1,500 within the metropolitan area. In the state of Florida, the median monthly cost for a room in a care home is around $2,800. However, the cost of living in a care home depends largely on location. Since the homes are private residences, costs are tied to real estate values and therefore may vary greatly.

Ocala is an ideal place for outdoor recreation, with a heritage and legacy of equestrian horse breeding, Ocala was named the Horse Capital of the World in 2007. This is very apparent with all of their horse farms and the many champion bred horses such as the 1956 Kentucky Derby winner, Needles, or Triple Crown Winner, Affirmed. There are more horses in Ocala/Marion County than anywhere in the world, along with many horseback trails and competitive racing tracks.

Ocala is also a great place to get out and enjoy the mild climate, birdwatching and cataloging all of the beautiful wildlife. Hunting is also a popular area pastime. Some locals operate a super fun zipline and will rent kayaks and canoes to those who want to enjoy the water. Ocala offers many other outdoors activities too including fishing holes, baseball games, and golf courses.

Lastly, for those looking for arts and culture, there’s the Appleton Museum and Brick City Center for the Arts to see classic and contemporary works art. If you desire something more kinetic, there is the Dance Alive National Ballet and Reilly Arts Center to take in some theatre. Ocala never forgets its history buffs either with such historic locations as Ma Barker House and the Historic Ocala Square.

Transportation

Ocala is serviced by the SunTran, a series of color-themed lines that are planned to get the maximum number of riders throughout the area. Though these are well planned, you’d be better off using private shuttles or rideshares if you needed to be somewhere specific. SunTran does offer charter services that may bridge the gap however.
