Staff must receive training in a variety of subjects. These areas include financial management, resident and provider rights and responsibilities, community resources, and resident assessment. Public assistance is available through Medicaid 1115 demonstration managed care waiver program–called STAR+PLUS. The maximum occupancy is 4 residents per room. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 10 residents. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as a comprehensive assessment , must address the residents individual needs, preferences, and strengths, and interviews, and home visits. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include personal care, assistance with activities of daily living, activity and/or social program for residents, and supervision or direct administration of medications. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include obtaining medications from a pharmacy, returning medications to the proper locked areas, and supervision of a resident’s medication regimen.
