Assisted living communities arrange residential living communities and health care for people who might require help with everyday activities such as cooking food or washing. Services offered often involve aid with activities of daily living. Residents may be kept under observation and evaluation. In certain situations, communities may provide hospice, “aging in place”, or respite. Ohio has specific standards associated with this type of community. Ohio Department of Health supervises this type of community. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. Public assistance is available through 1915(c) Assisted Living Program and the 1915(b)(c) Managed Care Demonstration Waiver called MyCare. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include assistance opening and taking medication, handing medications to resident, and verifying labels. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as psychological history, cognitive status review, health history, and medication review.
