Assisted living communities offer regular social events and apartment style housing as well as personalized assistance. Services offered often involve help with activities of daily living. Inhabitants may be kept under observation and evaluation. In select cases, communities may offer dementia care, hospice, or continuing care. In New Mexico, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $38,100 . New Mexico has specific rules associated with this type of community. New Mexico Department of Health, Division of Health Improvement, Health community Licensing and Certification Bureau governs this type of community. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. Staff are required to obtain education in a number of areas. These include: transportation safety, first-aid, infection control, and resident’s rights. The maximum occupancy is 2 residents per room. There must be one toilet for every 8 residents and one bath or shower for every 8 residents. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assist or supervise with specified nursing services, transportation services, ADLs support, and supervise self-administration of medications. Public assistance is available through 1115 Centennial Care waiver managed care demonstration program. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include provide therapeutic diets according the professionall orders, staff must receive training in safe food handling, provide three nutritionally balanced meals, and provide evening snacks.
