Assisted living communities administer recreational activities, supervision, and healthcare to persons who are around 65 years old. Services provided often involve aid with the activities of daily life. Residents may be kept under monitoring and evaluation. In some cases, communities may offer nursing care, “aging in place”, or dementia care. Nebraska has a number of stipulations related to this kind of community. Nebraska Division of Public Health, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Licensure and Regulation supervises this community type. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include monitor for nutritional problems on specified weight changes, provide adequate food services, and must offer written menus based on federal nutrition standards. Public assistance is available through Government assistance is covered through two Medicaid 1915(c) waiver programs. There must be one toilet for every 6 residents and one bath or shower for every 8 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There is a maximum occupancy of 4 residents per room. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as services provided by the community: how often, when and by who and services for residents with special needs. Staff members receive training in a variety of subjects. These include: financial management, gerontology, administration, and resident care/services. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assistance with self-administration of medications, financial management, assistance with personal care, and assistance with Addles.
