An assisted living facility is a residential living community which provides aid, supervision, and care to healthy individuals who are not in need of skilled nursing support. The types of service offered often involve aid with activities of daily living. Residents may be kept under supervision and assessment. Under certain circumstances, facilities may provide respite, continuing care, or dementia care. In Montana, the annual median cost for an assisted living facility is around $39,000 . Montana has specific regulations related to this type of facility. Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services certifies this type of facility. Public assistance is available through the Montana Medicaid Big Sky 1915(C) Waiver program.. .There must be one toilet for every 4 residents and one bath or shower for every 12 residents. The maximum occupancy is 2 residents per room. This type of facility is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. This type of facility is required to offer a number of services. These include assistance scheduling medical appointments, medication assistance, recreational activities, and assistance using mobility/assistive devices. This facility has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include there can be no more than 14 hours between an evening and breakfast meal, three meals must be provided daily at regular intervals, and meals must offer an alternative for food and drink to provide variety. These provisions include assisting residents in drinking fluid to swallow medication, assistance in removing medication from container for those residents with a physical disability, and aid in self-administration of medication. Staff are required to receive education in a number of subjects. These include: areas relevant to any duties or responsibilities, the montana long-term care resident bill of rights act, the use of the abdominal thrust maneuver, and services provided by the facility. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met.
