Assisted living communities provide residential living communities and aid to persons who might need a helping hand with everyday activities such as dressing or cooking. The services provided often include help with ADLs. Residents may be kept under supervision and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer dementia care, hospice, or continuing care. In Montana, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $39,000 . Public assistance is available through the Montana Medicaid Big Sky 1915(C) Waiver program.. .This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include meals must offer an alternative for food and drink to provide variety, there can be no more than 14 hours between an evening and breakfast meal, and three meals must be provided daily at regular intervals. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assistance using mobility/assistive devices, assistance with ADLs, recreational activities, and 24-hour on-site supervision. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include assistance in removing medication from container for those residents with a physical disability, retrieving medication from secured storage, and aid in self-administration of medication. Staff members receive education in a number of areas. These include: the Montana elder and persons with developmental disabilities abuse prevention act, the use of the abdominal thrust maneuver, an overview of the community's policies and procedures manual, and basic first-aid.
