Assisted living facilities have the luxury of a sense of community as well as individual assistance. Assisted living facilities usually offer care supervision, help with appointments and transit, and support with daily activities. In certain cases, facilities may offer respite, dementia care, or hospice. In Montana, the annual median cost for an assisted living facility is around $39,000 . The state of Montana maintains specific statutes related to this type of facility. Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services regulates this facility type. In total, there can be no more than 2 residents to a room. There must be one toilet for every 4 residents and one bath or shower for every 12 residents. This type of facility is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. This facility type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include opening the container lid, retrieving medication from secured storage, and assistance in removing medication from container for those residents with a physical disability. This facility has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include there can be no more than 14 hours between an evening and breakfast meal, meals must offer an alternative for food and drink to provide variety, and three meals must be provided daily at regular intervals. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as medication use, sensory patterns, use of restraints/assistive/safety devices, and health problems. Public assistance is available through the Montana Medicaid Big Sky 1915(C) Waiver program.. . Staff are required to receive education in a variety of subjects. These areas include services provided by the facility, the montana elder and persons with developmental disabilities abuse prevention act, the montana long-term care resident bill of rights act, and an overview of the facility's policies and procedures manual. This type of facility is required to offer a number of services. These include local transportation, assistance scheduling medical appointments, laundry, and 24-hour on-site supervision.
