This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. Public assistance is available through the Medicaid State Plan Personal Care authority. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include insulin injections may be administered by a certified medication technician or level i medication aide who has successfully completed the state-approved course for insulin administration, a physician, pharmacist, or registered nurse (RN) must review the medication regimen of each resident every other month, and self-administer prescription and nonprescription medications if a licensed health provider approves. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as assessment must be repeated whenever the resident has a significant change in condition and at least semiannually, an individualized evacuation plan must be developed for residents who require more than minimal assistance to evacuate, authorized staff person and a physician must conduct a physical exam to document the individual’s current medical status and write any special orders regarding care and needed procedures, and an individualized service plan must be developed that describes the services to be provided to meet the resident’s needs. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide at least three daily meals, modified diets prescribed by a physician can be provided, and modified diets must be reviewed at least quarterly by a consulting nutritionist, dietitian, RN, or physician. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assistance with distribution, protective oversight, assistance with administration of medications, and assistance with activities of daily living .
