Residents may be kept under observation and assessment. In certain situations, communities may provide “aging in place”, nursing care, or Alzheimer’s care. The Department of Human Services licenses regulates this community type. Staff must obtain training in a variety of areas. These include assisting a resident to keep appointments, being aware of a resident’s general whereabouts, medication management, and supporting a resident’s personal and social needs. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include medication supervision and administration, reminding a resident to maintain his/her medication schedule in accordance with the prescription, and proper training of direct care workers to handle and administer medications. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as The service plan must be updated annually and following a significant change in health status, service plan identifies the individual’s specific needs for care, service plan identifies the individual’s need for activities, and The home must complete a service plan in cooperation with each resident and/or their representative. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 21.
