It's very difficult to get a callback whether you're talking with billing or the nurses in the actual unit. Overall my loved seems pretty well adjusted, and seems to like it there. For that, I rate them highly. When I look at my loved one, his clothes look a little dirty and he looks a little unkempt. They did ask me to send him another razor (he came in with a $100 razor that was misplaced). We've brought in numerous grooming materials and the staff doesn't seem to know where they are (although honestly, with dementia, that could be my loved one putting them somewhere, it's hard to tell). It's so hard with Covid going on. But hopefully things will get better. As far as communicating what's going on with my loved one or with billing, that's been difficult.
Read moreMy mother has been a resident at Birch Bay for five years. She was in an independent living apartment for the first three, and is now in Pleasant Cove, the assisted living unit. She has always been happy with the location, the view, the staffing and the services at Birch Bay. She loves the Bar Harbor area, and enjoys the views of the bays and islands out her windows. Every time any of us call, she assures us she is "well-fed, well taken care of." She appreciates the attentiveness of the staff, the music and craft activities, and the clean, warm and cozy environment. We have been especially impressed with the Birch Bay response to COVID-19. Their attention to detail has been top-notch, communication to family and visitors superb, and precautions well thought out. My uncle and aunt had been living at a different (more expensive) facility, and after visiting my mother several times have now joined her at Birch Bay. We all recommend it highly!
Read moreWe chose Winterberry Heights because it looked very nice from the outside, then when you walk in it looks like a hotel and not institutional at all. The menu looked wonderful but I was not able to try any of the food. They were chef prepared meals and he was very nice. My brother did not participate in activities, but they did offer a lot of activities and had something going on all the time. Overall we had a good experience.
