Assisted living communities offer residential living communities and health care to persons who need a helping hand with mobility or dressing. Services provided often include support with ADLs. Inhabitants may be kept under observation and evaluation. In certain situations, communities may offer nursing care, hospice, or respite. In Indiana, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around 49,200. The state of Indiana maintains specific rules associated with this kind of community. Indiana State Department of Health regulates this community type. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include meals must provide a balanced distribution of the daily nutritional requirements, communities must provide three meals a day, communities must consider residents’ food allergies, and communities must meet daily dietary requirements and requests. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include preparation of prescribed medications, distribution of prescribed medications, and Medications may be administered under physician’s order by licensed nursing personnel or qualified medication aides. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as community will identify scope of care based on evaluation, A comprehensive assessment, a negotiated risk plan will be established, and evaluation must be updated at least semi-annually or when a significant change in condition occurs. Staff are required to receive education in a variety of areas. These include: records, specific position, 40 hours of continuing education every 2 years, and including evacuation procedures. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include executing a minor regimen based upon a nursing diagnosis or as prescribed by a physician, physician’s assistant, chiropractor, dentist, optometrist, podiatrist, or nurse practitioner, activities and programs appropriate to residents’ abilities and interests, identifying responses to actual or potential health conditions, and a nursing diagnosis. Public assistance is available through Medicaid A&D and TBI 1915(c) Waiver program. Communities must consider residents’ personal preference meals may temporarily be delivered to the resident’s room
