Mount Carmel, Illinois

Assisted Living

Assisted living communities provide a sense of community as well as personalized care. The types of service offered often involve aid with activities of daily living. Inhabitants may be kept under monitoring and assessment. In some instances, communities may offer “aging in place”, respite, or dementia care. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . The state of Illinois has specific rules related to this type of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health supervises this type of community. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assistance with activities of daily living, laundry, medication reminders, and supervision of self-administered medications. There must be one bath or shower for every residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. The maximum occupancy is 1 residents per room. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. Staff are required to receive education in a number of subjects. These areas include neglect prevention, choice, promotion of dignity, and reporting. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as assessment must be updated by a physician annually or upon a significant change in condition, evaluation of a prospective resident’s physical condition, evaluation of a prospective resident’s psychosocial condition, and provider must ensure that the resident and the resident’s representative, if any, are informed of the potential consequences of activities that the provider considers to pose risks to health and/or safety. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include medication administration, observing the resident, and only a licensed health care professionall employed by the community may administer medications. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals.
