Assisted living communities administer oversight, social events, and personal care to people around 65 years old. Public assistance is available through 1915(c) Medicaid Waiver programs- ) the Community Care Services Program is managed by the Department of Community Health’s Division of Medical Assistance Plans and partners with the Division of Aging Services and the Service Options Using Resources in a Community Environment (SOURCE) program. Staff members obtain education in a number of subjects. These include: assisting residents in transferring and ambulation, emergency preparedness, Residents’ rights, and exploitation of a resident. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include placing an oral dosage in the resident’s hand, assisting residents with storage of medications, and cognitive and functionally able residents may self-administer medications . This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include at least three meals, one nutritious snack, and any therapeutic diets ordered by a resident’s health care provider must be provided each day. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 25. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include described as personal services, the provision of assisted self-preservation, assisted living care, and administration of medications by a certified medication aide. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as assessment to determine the resident’s physical care needs, assessment to determine the resident’s medical needs, assessment to determine the residents cognitive and behavioral impairments, and assessment to determine the resident’s functional capacity with regard to ADLs.
