Assisted living communities arrange residential communities and assistance to seniors who might need support with dressing or mobility. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 1. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include licensed nursing staff may administer medications, unlicensed staff may assist residents with self-administration, and opening the container and removing a prescribed amount of medication. Staff must obtain education in a variety of fields. These areas include universal precautions, providing assistance with activities of daily living, 26 hours of training plus a competency test, and community sanitation procedures. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as community must document any substantial changes in a resident’s status which may necessitate relocation to a more specialized community , communities must document such assessment, medical examination report, and monthly nursing assessment of resident as ordered by physician . Public assistance is available through 1915(b)(c) MLTC program. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include the community must provide a variety of regular meals that meet the nutritional needs of residents, meals must be adapted to residents’ food habits, the community must provide therapeutic diets as ordered by the resident’s health care provider for residents who require special diets, and meals must be adapted to residents physical abilities . This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include nursing services, assistance with self-administration of medications, personal care services, and assistance with activities of daily living .
