An assisted living community is an organized living community which offers care, supervision, and support to self-sufficient persons who are not in need of skilled nursing support. Assisted living communities commonly offer aid with appointments and transportation, supervision of care, and aid with the activities of daily life. In certain instances, communities may offer Alzheimer’s care, continuing care, or hospice. In Arizona, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $45,000 . Arizona has a number of stipulations associated with this type of community. The Division of Public Health Licensing Services, Bureau of Residential communities Licensing supervises this community type. Staff members receive education in a variety of areas. These include: cardiopulmonary resuscitation for adults, first-aid, in-service education, and orientation that is specific to duties. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as initial comprehensive mental and physical assessment, The level of service the resident is expected to receive, and the amount, type, and frequency of services that will be provided to the resident. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include monitoring of self-administration, assistance with self administration, and medication administration. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include ancillary services, ensure the safety of residents who may wander, directed care services, and supervisory care services. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide meals and snacks in accordance with federal dietary guidelines, meals must comply with therapeutic diets specified in their service plan, and meals must meets the nutritional needs of residents. Public assistance is available through Arizona Long-Term Care System (ALTCS).
