Arts, Culture, Entertainment, and Recreation

Minneapolis is a vibrant city with a deeply rooted love for music, food, and the outdoors. Known for their “Minnesota nice” attitudes, the people of Minneapolis tend to be friendlier than your average city dweller. For arts and entertainment, there is much to do in Minneapolis. The iconic First Avenue in downtown was the birthplace of the Minneapolis sound, made famous by Prince who first graced its stage in 1981.

The city has a number of museums, including the Mill City Museum located on the banks of the Mississippi. Before it was a Museum, it was a mill owned by General Mills which experienced not one but two massive explosions during its storied history. The city has tons of walking paths that follow the banks of the Mississippi all throughout the Twin Cities.

For food, ‘Eat Street’ or Nicollet Avenue has tons of award-winning and affordable dining options that highlight the city’s diversity. For shopping, the city runs a direct bus route to the Mall of America, one of the largest shopping centers in the world. Local sports teams include the Vikings (NFL), the Wild (NHL), the Twins (MLB), and the Timberwolves (NBA).

Transportation

The city is consistently ranked as one of the most bikeable cities in the country with miles of trails and bike-only lanes. Public transit is available through Minnesota Metro Transit which operates bus lines all over the Twin Cities and the surrounding metropolitan area. The city also operates two light rails lines — the Green line, which runs from the business district of Minneapolis to St. Paul, and covers the University of Minnesota campus on both the east and west banks of the Mississippi, and the Blue line, which extends from downtown all the way to the southern suburb of Bloomington.
