  • Bright and friendly community

My mother in law has been very happy there. There are only two issues we have had there, they only one elevator which is very inconvenient, and the other is that the maintenance staff isn't responsive, Other than that, the food seems really good. There doesn't seem to be many activities and some of the residents seem to start their own activities. It is a very bright and welcoming building, it is newer, there are high ceilings in dining room, and there is an outdoor sidewalk with gardens.

  • A Nice Place to Be

Shasta Estates is a nice place to be. It is one of the best in Redding under normal conditions. Food is good when it is served in the dining room. Room size and layout is very good. Outdoor space is very well kept.

  • Only 1 elevator, huge safety concern in a 3 floor facility; too many people crowd on it, slow moving. When residents complained about over crowding on the elevator the manager said "we were all adults and we should all know how many people should be on an elevator". Activities are up to residents to come up with, not provided. Transportation is not as presented during sales pitch, neither are activities. Food is not good, frequently run out of basic things like ketchup, mustard, etc. they serve fish with tarter sauce never available. Breakfast is always the better meal of the day, lunch and dinner frequently are not what is listed on the menu for the day, vegetables are cooked to death and they consider a pickle spear to be a vegetable. The dinner rolls and cookies are good. Housekeeping staff is not allowed enough time to do a reasonably decent job, I didn't get clean sheets 3 times in November and December and once they pretended to change the sheets but didn't. I was not expecting to have to provide my own drinking water. They do not plan for emergencies and they will not help residents get up if they fall. I like being around the other residents, the residents come up with some games to play (even if they are dumb) but it gets people out of their room. If I look for a different facility I will make sure I'm on the ground floor. Out of the 4 places I looked into this seemed to be the best place.
