home away from home

From the moment we walked in we knew this was the community for our loved one, it is very clean and the people there are very friendly. It feels like home, we felt at ease, she was comfortable and we were comfortable leaving her there - we knew she would be safe and well looked after. Our loved one has not complained about the meals and dining service so we assume they are good. The activities are wonderful - they do have this University of Friends come from the local school almost to do like a group discussion/therapy with the residents and we would love it if they kept it around, we find it very beneficial for the residents.

If your loved one needs a community - this is the place to go to

We have not personally been to the community, but when we speak to our loved one we have heard no complaints. The big deciding factor for us was the women in charge of recruitment [name removed]. She has been very personable and would get on zoom chats with us so we could see the facility since we live out of town. She has been nothing but helpful. Also when anything comes up no matter how small it is, we can call the resident director and he is more then willing to help and be accommodating.

I toured this community. The cost was a little bit higher than others that we looked at and didn't include meal pricing, that was additional. It's modern and newer than a lot of other places. They didn't have amenities that some of the others have (pool, theatre, cable). Also, when we arrived for our tour, we stood in the front desk area for several minutes and weren't greeted. The receptionist was there, but facing away from the door and another staff member's office was right there and we could see her at her desk. We had to get their attention to be greeted. So not a great first impression. However, overall it was a nice facility just not our first choice.

An overall not good experience

I would tell others to look somewhere else, I didn't like the care Parkwest gave to my mom at all. They could've improved on their staff, as there was really only one nurse who was exceptional. Everyone else, even office staff, just weren't a good experience or place to be. They weren't caring; there was an instance when my mom was walking inside the building, but she wasn't doing very well. She decided to stop and have a seat because she was feeling faint. She eventually fell over on one of the couches and could hear people walking by, but no one stopped to help her. In regards to the food, there were days when they didn't or couldn't offer bread to make sandwiches, and they were always out of other things. Having her live here was an overall not good experience and we have since moved her out.

Overall experience they are above and beyond

We have received so much help from the Parkwest community over anyone else. The director her is phenomenal, he is always on top of things and more then willing to assist. The community is easy access for us location wise. We do know they have a lot of different activities but we just do not know how much our loved one actually participate. The meals are little to be desired but based on our overall experience so far we would recommend this community to other families.

A great place if it works you

I would tell others that when we did our interview with them we asked about Medicaid and they said they would help us through that process. We got into the office to sign the papers and we brought it up again and then they told us they do not accept Medicaid there. I thought they should have been more up front with us when we asked about it the first time. I think it is a great place if it works out for you and my loved one really likes it and is treated very well, but we will eventually have to move once funds run out.

tour review

Our family had an in person tour and it was not the best tour, the agent was fairly new so she really did not have a bunch of answers for the questions we had. Also the duplex we looked at was rather small and did not have a lot of natural lighting.

Needs improvements

The friendliness of the staff members tends to vary, and hopefully they have made improvements in the past few weeks but the management is poor. Within the care services, they also have extremely poor med management.
