About the facility Highview Residences - Chapin & Franklin House

Highview Residences are cottages within secure homes where we have a very unique approach to caring for people with dementia. Each cottages is home to between 12 and 14 Residents and includes private and common spaces. By dividing our residents into these smaller living spaces, it creates an environment that encourages their involvement in daily house events, while also providing opportunities for quiet time. Our monthly fees are all-inclusive and include all meals and snacks, 24-hour care (including continence care, medication management) with a private room, private bathroom, secure walking gardens, dementia specialized activities and a beautiful homelike setting. We are a private home and not a part of the Long-term-care system. Highview is a place where couples can continue to live together, either in a shared room or each in their own room. A satisfied POA of a client

My loved one came from a facility severely impacted by Covid isolation that triggered a marked deterioration in her. Now, she's responsive, engaging with others, loving the coziness of the cottages at Highview Residences. The food is good and meals are taken to tables to encourage conversations with the other clients. Games, social events, therapy dogs, an enclosed garden, all contribute to active participation. The goose setting her nest in the garden is a source of interest and discussion. The facility is very clean and is well maintained. I am always notified of any changes and needs. Visitors can visit at any time and can join in during visits. I would recommend this facility to others.

Layout is lovely. Marketed as exceptional elder care @ $7000/month. A handful or two of staff are consistent and are exactly who you want to care for your loved one. Management don't seem able to recruit and retain exceptional staff which significantly impacts continuity of care particularly for dementia care clients. After moving in, very little communication about loved one's status, support and needs. No regular consultation of any significance with families about their loved one's care. It's all about marketing. Don't challenge management.

Admission

It was a very difficult time to get mom into care. We went for a tour. Then went back to sign a lease, and she could not recall being there. Ultimately the POAs had to sign her in. .the admission process was very scattered and disorganized I was asked daily for more and more. The Dr was requested to send in a report and I had to assist with that even though all info had been given. As I am two hours away and busy with my own children I found it difficult. The day of admission was the worst. The movers did well taking her belongings and the staff were welcoming however there was little support given when we first got there. It was prearranged with times and holding her lunch and such but staff were scarce. Thankfully I brought my children as a distraction. It was only once my mom became verbally abusive to me that staff interviened. Since admission I had been contacted daily for her requests. Including gingerale. Why a full service home does not provide gingerale I am not sure. I am hoping she settles in and makes some friends.

Our tour was very good. It was a relaxed environment and the staff seemed happy. Residents looked well looked after. We liked the open kitchen and the large areas to walk and interact. We had a good feeling here.
