A decent place, a little short staffed, but they are very friendly and try hard. I picked this community because,I think it was the personal attitudes of the staff that I met.Overall, it's been very good.

highly recommended for a loved one, professional loving staff, residents treated with respect
The staff was very professional and caring. They treated my dad with respect and were very loving in a professional way. The facility, as a memory care facility, exceeded my family's expectations. I would highly recommend Cedarhurst of Bloomington to individuals seeking a memory care facility for their loved one. Several Cedarhurst staff members attended the visitation of our dad's funeral. The staff at the facility became like a second family.

Absolutely Awful Place
Cedarhurst was an absolutely awful place, my parents were miserable there! My dad passed, and no one told his wife, so she went to his room to find him dead. Was coroner contacted? No routine-night meds, meals late many times for over an hour, very small portions, left hungry several times. Turnover rate - cooks, servers/care helpers. People playing on phones in hallway, or just chatting while people need help-including a resident who fell, was on the floor struggling to get up- finally after me asking them to help her they said Oh, she falls all the time, and laughed. In armchairs - shoes off. Food cart being taken to secondary dining room during new floor construction in main dining room-stood in hallway on phone for several minutes while people were waiting for their dinner. Being given other peoples medicine. Evening medication given anywhere from 4:30-10:00 at night-have asked repeatedly for it to be given between 8:00 and 9:00 in the evening. Keep giving food to my father he can't have, despite several conversations, being given renal failure restriction charts, including getting grilled cheese sandwiches despite not supposed to have dairy. Potatoes almost every day, tomato soup (again, not good for him!) Running out of food-my dad didn't get any chicken soup because they ran out! POOR phone skills-been on hold for over an hour!!!!! from approximately 4:10-5:40 (I gave up). Slow staff attending medical issues- Dad's eye took 2 1/2 weeks to be addressed by [name removed]. Mom's injured back- I called, spoke with nurse, and it took almost 3 hours after I called to get anyone to check her out. It took [name removed] coming in to get my mother any help around 10:30 in the morning and she fell in the middle of the night. Needed help to get up-yet no one checked on her to make sure she was ok until I called.

Wound issues with my parent
Absolutely disgusted that this place has not been shut down. There is no one at the front desk. If you bring up concerns to “management” they ignore you, or do nothing about it, or the put you on a no visit list. They have agency out of the building, but it seems like it was better when they had them in because the agency workers actually took care of my loved one. They got rid of the only nurse who cares, [name removed] which my entire family loved her. My loved one is left to sit in the lobby for hours after she’s eaten and not to her bed so she can sleep. The turnover is tremendous. As soon as we all have hope it is turning around the people who are good are gone and all that is left is terrible Managment. Numerous complaints to corporate, the building and state and it is still getting worse. If my loved one didn’t have dementia and she has already decLined we would have moved her. I hope this reaches you before you move a loved one into this terrible place.

Great Environment
We are very happy. They have converted from contract staff to permanent staff. They treat my loved one well. The staff is very helpful. The new Director of Nursing, is pleasant and follows up. We picked this community, because of the cost, it was cheaper, and a memory care facility. They are working really hard to upgrade a few things. I am very pleased with the care. I would recommend to other families.

To anyone that's interested in memory care, I would say take a look at Cedarhurst.
It has been a nice experience for us at Cedarhurst. It's a smaller community with traditional treatment for memory care. The staff is nice. My loved one has a nice room. And so far so good. He's receiving much better care than at a previous place. Like all care facilities, they could have a few more staffers than they're able to hire, but overall we haven’t had any complaints They try to be attentive, and they do look out for the patients. One of the things I really like is that all of the aides and nurses seem to be able to call everyone by their first name, which shows that they've taken the time to learn a little bit about the patients, which is good. They don’t just call them honey or sweetie. They address them by name, which seems more respectful.

Exceptional Care for the Residents
This is a good place for your loved one. They are friendly, and they care for the residents. The food is good. They have a nurse practitioner as a doctor and didn't know about memory care. She wasn't willing to learn about treatment for Alzheimer's and dementia residents..

A good place to take your loved one!
Our loved one moved in right before COVID, and at first no one was allowed to visit even including family. From our understanding this community has been kept fairly clean, and it seems like the staff members have been friendly and very caring towards our loved one. They have been very careful during this time, they have tested all the residents and are very adamant about always wearing masks. It is not a very high priced community, and they seem to have a lot activities for the residents to do. I believe they have different management but that hasn't seemed to affect the quality of care, that is still great. If you want to visit your family you can sit outside on the porch sitting six feet away.

Great place just not a good fit for our needs
We really liked Autumn Hills. We joined our friend [name removed] for meals the food was good. Our friend [name removed] needed more care. He was not as mobile as a lot of the residents there. He needed more help. We liked Autumn Hills but [name removed] needed more care and we had to move him.

Disappointed
My parents and I were so unhappy with the sporadic level of care and the constant turnover of a few good staff members. Had to hire 24/7 caregivers in addition. Wish there had been more Bloomington options then, but this was four years ago. Really a sad and painful experience.

The facility is very nice. I feel comfortable with Mom living there. The care is good and the staff are nice. They answer my questions and also give good feedback. They are more expensive, which I understand with the cost of running the facility. Unfortunately they don't take Medicaid, so we may have to move her to another facility, which is not good for someone with dementia.

Devoted Staff, Wonderful Place
Our mother has received excellent care at Autumn Hills over the past three years. There is occasional turnover of staff that can be frustrating (true at many health care facilities, I'm afraid) but there are also many deeply caring people there, in all branches of the organization, and overall, we've been extremely happy and grateful to have found this place for our Mom.

Wonderful, caring staff.
My mother has lived at Autumn Hills for nearly three years and the care has generally been excellent. Because pay is so low for health care workers, there can be a fair amount of turnover, but the training for new hires is excellent. The activities department is wonderful, and there are many deeply caring staff throughout the facility.

Review of Autumn Hills
Autumn Hills was a clean community with friendly staff. The staff was knowledgeable and I enjoyed learning about not only the nursing services. but also about the activities and how they train their staff to interact with residents with Alzheimer's Disease. It gave me peace of mind knowing my mom could be cared for at one community until the end of life.

Review of Autumn Hills
My father cares for his mother who suffers with dementia. I brought him to tour here because they only care for clients who have dementia. We toured and learned how my grandmother's life story will help staff determine how best to care for her! The residents here seemed happy and well cared for and that made our family feel at ease.

Autumn Hills is the best in the area.
My wife has been at Autumn Hills since the end of 2017. I have been very pleased with the care she (and I) have received. Every person on the nursing and care staff has been trained to deal with the demands of Alzeimer's care. The staff treats each resident as an individual, and they try very hard to make the environment as comfortable and rewarding as is possible under the unfortunate circumstances of Alzheimer's. Autumn Hills is understaffed, partly, I believe, because it takes such a special person to deal with Alzheimer's varied moods day in and day out. I examined three other places before selecting Autumn Hills. This was the only place that dealt exclusively with Alzheimer's patients. I thought this would be an important advantage, and, after half a year of observation, I still feel that way. I understand that in some earlier times Autumn Hills lacked the characteristics that I find so rewarding. I feel fortunate that my choice has worked out so well.

Look Elsewhere
If your loved one needs assistance or general supervision, this is NOT the place for them. My mom would have been safer living in her home, alone. The staff has no interaction with the residents, the residents are on their own. Look elsewhere or allow your loved one to care for themselves, this is NOT the place for care.

There are pros and cons - Facility is better than many, but not as good as some. Depends on your loved one's needs.
My mother is a resident there. I have very mixed feelings about the place. It has a great location and when I first placed my mother there, the staff was amazing. My mother had been at several facilities and when I met Kyla and Susan I knew that this was the place. Kyla, who managed the administration end, was super compassionate and smart. She did an amazing job. With the head nurse, Susan, things were great. Unfortunately, they both left around the same time and the replacement individuals were not as exceptional. Most places are under staffed and employees are over worked. I find that this is true here as well despite the fact that patients pay so much to live there. The problem is the corporate model that puts the bulk of the funds into the hands of investors and not in the hands of underpaid/overworked employees and in patient care. I would love to see more activities for patients. While I think that the care is comperable to other places, the management, the head nurse, the food, and the activities are sub standard or entirely missing. So - it depends on what you are looking for. If your loved one is not going to handle activities anymore but the central location is good - you will like this facility. Many of the support staff are wonderful, but can only do so much with so many patients. If you want more activities and a head nurse that seems responsive to your concerns, this may not be the place for you. Having said that - many of the nursing staff are compassionate and caring. I rarely discuss anything with the head nurse - instead I work with other staff members who are helpful. Finally, I think it is important to remember that if you have a family member with dementia that requires a locked facility and can not handle the freedom of Bell Trace or Meadowood, Autumn Hills is a good facility and the best in the central location in Bloomington. I do think that the facility is over priced and the food is so awful that my mother hates eating it.

  • Confirm that the community offers services that are required for the senior’s specific needs and budget
  • Check additional licensing and state audit information

If you become aware of any information that should be updated or noted, please contact A Place for Mom. A Place for Mom uses the term “assisted living” to indicate that the community provides some level of assistance with daily living activities. It does not indicate that the facility meets official state requirements for level of care.
